We had the good fortune of connecting with Kendra LaRoche and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Kendra, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
I wasn’t really thinking ahead when I started my business. I saw a fun opportunity to make a few extra dollars being creative for really what felt like the first time in my life. I didn’t think about doing it full time I didn’t know how to do anything properly. I just knew I was coming alive for the first time in a while and I wanted to follow that. Once I started to figure things out and people liked my work I knew there were proper steps I needed to take to make my business official but at the time I didn’t know exactly what I wanted out of Loft & Leaf. It took a lot of trial and error and steps backwards to get where I am today!

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Loft & Leaf, to put it simply, is a plant design company. We offer exterior and interior plant design. Which ranges from exterior garden beds to living room and kitchen table planters. We also take on a wide variety of creative plant design projects such as preserved moss frames and living wall installations. Really we say yes to anything plants! We like to bring a creative approach to landscaping. We curate landscaping and our interior designs to the client just like any other aspect of your design process for a space would. Traditional landscaping typically sticks to the same few plants we like to consider the clients roots and where they get inspiration and bring that to life in their homes.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
If my best friend were coming into town I would start with a post flight coffee at Black Bear and a quick dip at Grayton Beach. We would get ready for dinner and make our reservations at Surfing Deer for vegan wings and cocktails. The next day we would wake up early to paddle board to the artificial reef in Grayton Beach and bring our snorkels to see some cool fish. We would grab lunch at Chringo after! We would stop by Gafferys Art Gallery and admire the pieces and then head to seaside for afternoon shopping. We would make sure to stop in The Art of Simple for cool nic nacks and gifts. Later that evening we would meet up with friends for dinner and drinks at Daytrader Tiki Bar. On Sunday we would hit the Rosemary Beach farmers market and grab coffee from Amavida. We would then travel a little off the beaten path and head to the west side of pcb for some time in the sun and Vietnamese food at Pho pier 77.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I owe a lot of credit to my fiance soon to be husband for encouraging me to quit my job and supporting me through a lot of uncertainty. I also owe a lot to my dad and my older sister who gave me advice the whole way and still to this day. I could not have grown my business without the amazing family members and mentors I’ve had a long the way. The entrepreneur journey takes a village truly.
