We had the good fortune of connecting with Kelsey Cherne and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Kelsey, what do you attribute your success to?
I am a new business owner, the most important factor behind our success is having an amazing team of trainers and a great support system at the franchise level. I believe one of the biggest reasons the McKinney location has done so great is because as the owner I follow the systems our Franchise has put in place. They have taken all of the guesswork out so you can enjoy running your business.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
Kelsey Cherne, I’m the owner of Outlaw Fitcamp in McKinney since February 2021. I am a seasoned professional with more than 13 years of experience in the fitness industry. I have been the head personal trainer and manager at the Outlaw McKinney location and was given an amazing opportunity to take over Ownership. Since taking over, the gym has experienced exciting growth with many new members, new equipment and an amazing team of trainers. I hold an MBA from Drexel University, a Bachelor’s of Science from Friends University, and many specialist certifications in the fitness industry. I am a Mom of six children and understand the unique challenges of working, parenting, and maintaining a healthy lifestyle. I devote my time to coaching clients to be the best version of themselves and when not in the gym i devote my time to my family of eight.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Honestly, I’m a homebody, but I do get out a little. I would take them to workout at my gym, and then head to Flower Mound to show off our corporate location. From there, there are a few restaurants that are worth a stop. First Velvet Taco, amazing tacos and “Kickass Margarita.” Next stop, for Cocktails at the Truck Yard. If they have never been to Texas, definitely a stop by Buccee’s!! Finish the night Texas style, sharing laughs around a bonfire and under the stars.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
13 years ago my Starbuck’s cup had a quote from Oprah Winfrey, “ follow your passion and it will lead you to your purpose.”
I was new into personal training, had no idea what my journey was going to look like, but all I knew is that I wanted to help people feel strong, confident and to believe in themselves again. So my journey began. Brookes Robertson at BFitness in Oswego, IL , he is the first mentor I had ever had. He prepped me for a bodybuilding show and said, “girl you need to do this for a living, you get it, go get certified now.” So I did., and the journey began. Fast forward a decade and my family and I find ourselves relocating to Dallas, TX. After shopping a few gyms, I found Outlaw Fitcamp and that’s where I wanted to work. After being part of the company, meeting the team, meeting Jesse James the founder. I realized how lucky I am to work here. It didn’t take long for me to realize I had found my second mentor in the industry. Jesse, is a true inspiration, leader, coach and fitness genius. Over the course of time, his leadership and the belief of the current owners of the McKinney location, I was given the opportunity to become the owner of my own gym., with the mentorship of Jesse, the involvement of my community, and getting to live out my dream and passion everyday. I am truly blessed!
