We had the good fortune of connecting with Keishia Lewis-Crabtree and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Keishia, let’s talk legacy – what do you want yours to be?
LEGACY!!! That’s a word that I’ve been dwelling on for many years. When you are young and living life, you don’t necessarily think about the future. The future you and your lineage. I constantly try and go back in my family line, and try to find something to relate to. What do I really want my family line to look back and see?
Fish Trap’n came along and helped me hone in on what is important to me and what I can leave behind. It has opened my eyes to a whole new level of thinking. This is really about the security of my family. Constantly making decisions can be hard because it only takes one to alter your existence and your future. Me stepping out on faith to build Fish Trap’n was the first step I took. Right now,I’m building a legacy. I would dare to say an empire. Its just that big in my head. What I’m building in faith, is that my great grands x10 will be able to eat off of what I’ve sown! The Bible talks about inheritance. How can I deny my line this gift from God? As I walk closer to him, it’s more than clear he wants this more for me than I realized. He’s getting my table prepared. He’s connecting me with those that are connected to my destiny. He’s allowing me to inspire and create new waves for other families to claim their inheritance! It’s truly a journey. One I didn’t think I would be consistent in but when you look around, you’re only getting older! With age should come wisdom, rather you seek it out or it finds you,to know better is to do better.
I truly miss my grandma Henrietta and would of loved to talk to her as I got older to be able to see my past through her lens. I honestly don’t know much about my ancestors and that sucks. Not knowing who you are and where you came from can be hard to handle when you talk about legacies. What I did take from the lack,is that I don’t want my lineage to have to “wonder”. Fish Trap’n is all about leaving a piece of me behind. I’m still building it but right now it’s been a ride lol I wish all my grands luck when they read that I was out here selling “FAT CAT” on the back patio for 10 and 20 dollars lol
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
This world would have you believing that you should be 10 years ahead of the plan you concocted inside of your head. We sometimes look at the outer layer of people and try to compare or contrast why we aren’t there or how far we are not from others. I’m here to tell you that none of that is your concern.
Knowing who you are and what you stand for is the ultimate test of your character. Staying in your lane means that you don’t have time to look up from the race to see who you left or who is leaving you. You just know that you will make it when it’s your arrival time. It takes one to look deep and hard at themselves to determine how you should run this race. It’s so easy to be swept up with how folks present the race but once you’re in it, you see it for what it truly is,a journey.
Me taking Fish Trap’n and praying that it takes my lineage to new heights is a tedious race. The doubts, the generational trauma and all of the woes are on you when you begin. With every stride you take, chains start to break off. Your mindset shifts to see the bigger picture. Even if you don’t know how to get there, you begin operating out of radical Faith! This faith gets tested plenty. You burn yourself out thinking all kinds of negative thoughts in the beginning because you are just scared. What I realized going into year #3 is that same fear I thought would stopped me,fueled me.
Find you a niche you can relate to or something you would do for free for the rest of your life, and go with it. Balls to the wall that ish! Everyone is not meant to do this and you as a person have to be ok with that. Remember, run your own race… but for those of us thst are crazy enough to take the chance and run,we gotta be layered focus on the end goal. For me,it’s all about babies I will never be able to hold and kiss thst will call me great granny, madea, crazy woman etc lol I do it for the next generations. I do it because I may be forgotten by the world but my line will have something to always look back on and take pride in. I don’t aim to be “famous” but I do aim to have some kind of influence of inspiration and wisdom for people following behind me. I want people to know it’s doable. I want people to realize we not here for a long time so while we are here,we should try to put our very best foot forward in this race. Each time someone passes, they are passing you the baton to keep running. I can’t be the one to throw it all away because of fear, trauma and our curses! We breaking all chains and strong holds here at Fish Trap’n! Just keep going. You won’t ever know the end of the story/race if you don’t finish it yourself.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
The new concept in Arlington(Kitchen Combine) is a great place to try new chefs every month! If you are here for a week, this is Definitely a must go to spot! I’ve taken the tour and it is high on my to-do lists to visit monthly.
Next I would say head down to Marty’s LIVE in Dallas on Fridays and Saturdays where Fish Trap’n will be slanging the fattest “FAT CAT” around the metroplex! This is night club action. Drinks and good food will always be top of the list when visiting somewhere new. Come see me!
Finally to relax,I would visit Spa Castle. You can’t beat a relaxing atmosphere and no kids! This adult castle is perfect to reset your mind for the week.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I would love to thank BIGTYME WEB BBQ!! Owners Larry&Tressia! These two have been my rock in this vendor world. Sending me great tips, allowing me to talk her ear off and plugging me into great opportunities have been such a blessing! Thank you both from the bottom of my heart ❤️
Next I would like to thank Correy Miller owner of Debonair Beard Co! Correy has always pushed me and encouraged me into this greatness. I met him almost 3 years ago starting Fish Trap’n and we just locked in with our mindset. The conversations we have are top tier. The growth we both have had over the years Is a testament to grab hold of those sent along the way to help you in your destiny. These are people who are like minded and will help you achieve set goals. Thank you Correy for being one of my lighthouses.
