We had the good fortune of connecting with Kaylie H and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Kaylie, career-wise, where do you want to be in the end?
To be a published writer. Whether that’s in a magazine, a journal, or my very own book, I just want to have my name on something I can be proud of. For almost all of my life I have wanted to publish something meaningful. A written piece that speaks to people. The goal may be many accomplishments over (hopefully), but I can’t be for certain. If I get one article/book out there, I will be happy.

By the end of my career, I’d like to be sought after. Someone who people think of when they want to talk about body positivity, writing romance, or photographing life. I want my name to be synonymous with “creativity”. I want people to think of me when a plus size babe wears the clothes that others say she can’t. Even when I retire, it’d be nice to get the random email or phone call telling me that I’m needed because I am a positive voice.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I’m a writer, first and foremost. I think what sets me apart is that I can inspiration ANYWHERE! Literally lol. My favorite place to get writing done is in a coffee shop, absorbing the atmosphere, listening in on conversations, and people watching. I can also find inspiration in music, at work, and even from a drive around town. Everyone has a story to tell and I want to tell that story. I am no where haha! I have a long way to go professionally, but I’m working on it. One day, one step at a time.
I want people to know that I never gave up. I may not have finished every story I set out to write, but I finished at least one.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Hmm.. I like going to Denton. I know it’s a little north, but it’s one of my favorite cities to explore. Hitting up Recycled Books, finding the purple door to take photos, and grabbing a burger and a beer at LSA. It’s a full day’s trip that is totally worth it! Some other places to check out would be Carrollton and the crazy amount of Korean restaurants they have. And Benbrook lake! My brother has one of those secrets spots he goes to so I’d make sure to include that in the itinerary.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
My junior high librarian.. She was a voice for me who encouraged me to read. That love of reading is what led me to start writing. If it wasn’t for her constant abounding love of reading, I don’t know if I would have become the reader and writer I am today.

Also, my mother. She’s an artist who never kept up with her passions. She let motherhood and responsibilities take over. I hope to show her that following your passions is just as important. I want her to know that I’m doing it for her.
