We had the good fortune of connecting with Katy Rohm and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Katy, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
My biggest motivation in starting my own business was to be able to contribute to the community in a positive way. It has always been a dream of mine to make a positive impact in the world. Never in a million years could I have imagined doing that in this way. With every new client I get though, the journey becomes more and more fulfilling and rewarding. By starting my own business, I am able to build lasting relationships with my clients and offer them an experience that is truly tailored to them. Everybody is unique, and in running my own business, I am able to get to know them better, which means I can deliver a memorable experience built just for them. So, whether it’s helping somebody to see themselves in a whole new light, giving others a confidence boost, or offering a unique way for couples to connect, I know that I am putting positivity out in the world. And that is what motivates me from day one of starting my business to now.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I am a photographer, and I’ve loved photography for a very long time. But it wasn’t until I ventured into boudoir photography that I felt truly fulfilled. Boudoir photography is such a special form of photography. It has allowed me to connect with my clients on a different level than before. I take the time to get to know them, find out their why, and often times, it is so similar to my why. They want to see themselves in a new light. They want to love themselves more. They want to own who they are and be proud of themselves. And that is my why as well. I want all of that for them too. I would say what is setting me apart from others in my field, is that I don’t believe this empowerment or confidence boost should be exclusive to just women, but for everybody. Often you will find boudoir photographers that serve only women. I believe that it has expanded to include other genders, and even intimate couples photography. I love helping everyone discover themselves. And I love capturing the love and chemistry a couple has together. Photographs help us relive moments in our lives. And it keeps those memories alive, even if they are long gone. So being able to provide this service, and capture these moments in life for others, so they can look back and be proud of who they are, is beyond rewarding.

Starting my own business has definitely not been an easy road. There is always an element of self-doubt in any venture like this. But between my husband and the feedback from clients, I know I am doing exactly what I was meant to do. So even when I question myself, I push forward for my clients. Their feedback is so important and vital to what I do. Because yes, I want them to be able to hold beautiful photographs and albums in their hands, but I also want them to look back at it as a memorable and empowering experience. And so far, that is what I have heard. What I really want people to know about my company is that it isn’t about being “sexy.” Sexy is a state of mind, and not a look. It’s about being comfortable and confident with who you are in this exact moment, and that is what makes you sexy.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
So I would definitely take my friend to Sundance Square in Fort Worth. I think it is beautiful there. Afterwards, I would love to grab a drink and food from Funky Picnic Brewery. My friend introduced me to this spot, and it is one of my favorites. The beer, food, and overall vibe is just fantastic. Another spot I really enjoy is Eagle Mountain Park. As a photographer, I really got my start with love of photography through nature. So, a great hike in a beautiful location with my camera in tow will always be one of my favorite things to do. I also highly recommend Fort Worth Water Gardens. I think they did an amazing job designing that area, as it is a nice, serene getaway in the middle of the city.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
Without a doubt, I would not be where I am today without the love and support of my husband. His belief in my abilities and encouragement is what keeps me going on a daily basis, even when I am not feeling the most confident. In a world where “that’s not good enough,” seems to be what people turn to, to motivate and inspire growth (which doesn’t work for everyone, in fact it doesn’t work for a lot of people), my husband reminds me how important positivity and belief in a person is. He is always there to remind me that I’ve got this and pushes me to take the next steps I need to take in order to grow. Without his, “You’re great,” and “You’ve got this,” I probably would not have gotten to this point at all. So, Don, thank you for being the wonderful person that you are, for inspiring me to grow, and for being that positivity in so many others’ lives, mine included. You are an inspiration.
