We had the good fortune of connecting with Kassandra Smith and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Kassandra, any advice for those thinking about whether to keep going or to give up?
Honestly there have been plenty of times where i have wanted to give up. What keeps me going is the connections I have made throughout out the years, clients that have now become friends. I have the power to make people feel and look the best versions of themselves. I have been a therapist and confidant to my clients when they’ve needed that from me. So the good definitely has outweighed any of the bad moments. If it’s something you love and something you have evolved and excelled at. Keep going always keep going and success follows.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I was fortunate enough to do cosmetology in high school. Which I’m forever grateful for. Somehow i ended up in this industry, because right after high school i got my license and actually did nothing with it. I started working full time and going to school full time. For one reason or another it didn’t workout and i threw myself back into the hair industry. It was definitely not easy because like anything new you’re scared and nervous to mess up, but you can’t learn or grow without making mistakes. What I’ve learned and what has worked for me which is what i feel has aided in my success is being transparent and authentic.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Well dfw has a lot of cute places. I’m always down for dinner and drinks and Dallas has plenty of those. Just a google search away. My hometown Grand Prairie has also grown a lot and has new hangout places which i wouldn’t mind taking her too as well.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
So most definitely i would not be where i am today If the owners of Instinktive, the salon I’m working at did not believe in me and my potential. I actually started there as a receptionist and then transitioned behind the chair. I shadowed my boss and dear friend Cerly to learn all the coloring techniques and all my fellow co workers that were more then willing to teach me! Also my husband, family and friends by being supportive or being my Guinea pigs and trying new things on them.
