We had the good fortune of connecting with Kassandra Nordhoff and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Kassandra, how do you think about risk?
“You miss out on 100% of the shots you don’t take” is truly what motivates me to take those risks that others may be too afraid to tackle. There are good risks and bad ones, big ones and small ones. There is no “how to” book on life so I’m a firm believer of learning through experience. It’s not about how many times you hit the wall, but rather how many times you get back up and try again. The biggest risk I’ve taken is buying a home in the midst of the pandemic in 2020. Prior to being laid off I was actually in the process of finalizing my home buying paperwork and then the unimaginable happened and in that moment I felt like my world had fallen apart. I cried and felt helpless, but I also knew that crying wasn’t going to get me where I wanted to be, so I applied online and was willing to take any job that would allow me the opportunity to try again. I had worked on this goal for years and I wasn’t going to let one set back keep me from achieving my dreams.
My mom was the one who told me to go for it. So I did and I can proudly say that I have been a homeowner of 4 years in May. You will never be given money, houses or jobs, but you will be given opportunities to make money or get a house or a new job. It all depends on what you choose to do with the cards you are dealt.

The journey to this moment has never been easy and will continue to test me, but it’s one step closer to MY future!
The biggest lesson I learned in life is that you have to believe in yourself. Don’t search validation from others.

Life was never going to be easy but it was so much more of a rewarding win when you get to the other side with your efforts. I want people to know that they can like, know and trust me when they choose to work with me.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
If I had someone come visit me for a week … well I would love to go to a game with them. Whether it’s the Rangers, Mavs or Cowboys I think you couldn’t go wrong with an outing like that! Texas Live! Is such a fun vibe too and convenient being near 2 stadiums. As far as food and drinks I would say El Rincon Mexican Kitchen has an amazing price point for their food and even better happy hour along with having the best margaritas! Highly recommend the Pollo en Champinones and their Guava margarita so yummy 🙂 The Whippersnapper always has some fun themed pop-up bars which is always a great weekend activity. I also love going to places like Dave & Busters, Puttshack and EVA! A good place to go for a night out of dancing and music (depending on the mood) Electric Cowboy and Oak Lawn strip area.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
The people and organizations I would like to thank are all part of why I’m here and my growth as a person. My paternal grandparents for investing and saving money for my future aspirations even when they are no longer here.
My mom for being the strongest person I know and teaching me that resilience is an important characteristic to have as a woman and mother.
My grandma for always believing in me even when I made mistakes that affected her. For helping to raise me alongside my great grandma and mold me into the young woman I am today.
Magnolia Lodging for giving me the first opportunity to get out of the restaurant industry and step into the corporate world.
El Rincon Mexican Kitchen & Tequila Bar (Rick & Susan Na and Steven Kuy) for not only hiring me but giving me so many unique and great opportunities to further my career.
Lastly I would like to say thank you to Ozment Media because without them Black Tie Flair would have never come to life!
