We had the good fortune of connecting with Karly Hanson and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Karly, what do you attribute your success to?
For me, the most important factor in the success of my brand is serving a client base that I directly relate to. The western women and cowgirls of DFW needed an outlet to feel beautiful and confident and I provide that through my unique sessions that combine the western way of life with beautiful images.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I’ve always had a passion for photography. What started as taking photos of bulls, and cattle operations quickly turned to people. I wanted to combine my love for the western way, with beautiful imagery that does justice to cowboy culture. As a cowgirl myself, I saw a lack of photographers that understood what it meant to work a branding pen, saddle a horse, or how to correctly style a cowboy hat. Often as cowgirls and women of the west we work hard, get dirty along side the men, and often suppress our softer side. I wanted an avenue for western women to combine their everyday life of working the ranch, loving horses, hunting, etc with beautiful imagery that showcased them in a more feminine and empowering way. From that Cowgirl Boudoir was born, complete with horses, cowhides, guns, etc! When I started sharing my work on TikTok the women of Cowtown fell in love, quickly I was making regular trips to work with western women making them see a softer side of themselves. It’s always nerve wracking to ask someone you’ve just met to trust you to showcase them in the most beautiful light, but watching my clients blossom when they see a different side of themselves is so rewarding. Many women deal with self worth and body image issues and that’s been challenging to overcome myself, but it’s been such a blessing to show cowgirls that they’re stunning. Watching a self conscious woman look at her images and cry tears of joy and beam with pride has been the best part of what I do!
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I LOVE Fort Worth and the Dallas area, it wouldn’t be a trip if you don’t stop by Panther City BBQ and get the Brisket Elote, then stop over at Muy Frio and grab the peach Margs. You can NEVER go wrong visiting the stockyards and seeing the history! I love Sundance Square and slowing down a bit to see the Sid Richardson Museum. Another serene spot that makes a great photo op is the Water Gardens. There’s almost always a great concert over at Billy Bob’s if you’re looking for some country night life! Gemelle’s is one of the cutest brunch spots in the city. It wouldn’t be a trip without seeing White Rock Lake, Deep Ellum is a great venue to catch your favorite artists at. A great bar I love is the Cowboy Channel bar with the Cowgirl Channel Speakeasy below! If you’re looking for a great outside spot Second Rodeo Brewing is great and dog friendly!
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I would love to shout-out the women of DFW that have backed me on TikTok. For a long time I was worried I would never be able to grow into this space and be able to travel to Texas regularly for my business. If it wasn’t for these cowgirls commenting and messaging me non-stop I would’ve never made the jump. When I did they welcomed me with open arms, I could’ve never grown my business without them!
