We had the good fortune of connecting with Karly Driftwood and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Karly, we’d love to start by asking you about lessons learned. Is there a lesson you can share with us?
I don’t know if it’s the most important lesson, but one that sticks out is: “Projects take longer than expected.” I often see with my own work and others, that if you pick a set date on something, it’s usually gonna take longer than that. You can set a goal for something to be done, but it almost always ends up taking longer than expected.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
My name is Karly Driftwood. I am a singer-songwriter based in Nashville. The journey was not easy getting here, but I can’t complain because it has made my life full of stories. I’m an only child from Richmond, VA. I spent a lot of time alone so I learned how to be independent early on. I wanted to become a singer-songwriter when I heard Plush (the acoustic version) by Stone Temple Pilots when I was a kid. My parents always pushed education on me, so I went to college for mortuary school. During the day, I’d embalm bodies, write songs during lunch break in my car, and then danced at a strip club at night to save to move to Nashville. I have a song out called Stripped My Way To Nashville. It was a wild journey and I learned a lot about people and the real world. I would like to inspire people and show them that you can do it if you believe in yourself.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
So currently I live in Nashville. My favorite places to drink are Santa’s Pub and Lucky’s. Santa’s Pub is a trailer that’s Christmas themed all year long. Drinks are expensive downtown, but Santa’s has 3 dollar PBR’s so I rather go there!
I love Lucky’s because they play early 2000’s alternative which is the music I grew up on.
My favorite place to eat is an Indian buffet called House of India in Franklin.
We would obviously have to go downtown on Broadway if it’s my friends from out of town.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
As terrible as this may sound, I want to give this shoutout to me. I’ve had a really hard time the past couple of years and I’m proud of myself for still getting up and going. I’m even proud of myself to do this interview.
