Meet Karen Marmara | Owner AliCat Coins

We had the good fortune of connecting with Karen Marmara and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Karen, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
It started in 2020, I got laid off from the company I worked for 25 years. Myself and husband James talked about our next move. After some brainstorming, we decided for the short term we would sell some of our personal gold and silver stack as we knew it would be difficult to find a job during COVID.

We started an Instagram page (@ALICAT_COINS). We came up with that name as my daughters name is Ali and her Grandfather calls her AliCat. I liked the name and we decided that’s what we wanted to name the business. I sat down and designed our label and the business was born.

We planned on this being short term but we just kept growing and growing. After about 6 months I realized I didn’t need to look for a job anymore as this was my job. It grew into a full time position.

Fast forward to 2022 and my husband got laid off from his job. We decided that if we were going to blend online and physical shop now was the time. We knew there was a lack of shops in the area and started to scout locations. We found the perfect one on hwy 78 in Sachse. We knew there wasn’t a presence and wanted to be able to provide the same awesome customerservice to our local community.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
What sets us apart? We love to share our knowledge with people about precious metals. Talk about the different investment strategies. We always want the customer to feel they are leaving with information that is new to them or confirms their current knowledge.

Doing this business I have realized a lot of people hear about precious metals investing specifically gold or silver and they think they have to have a lot of money to invest; not knowing that right now you can invest at least $35 something dollars a month for 1oz. Imagine if you do this you can have 12oz of silver by the end of the year. It’s not a race it’s a marathon.

We are a small family owned company that cares about you and the creation of generational wealth. And find it very rewarding to be able to share our knowledge to help other succeed.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
When we have visitors we always go over to Ft Worth to the stockyards to watch the cattle drive. I would take them to Linke’s BBQ in Wylie. Catch a Baseball/Basketball/Hockey Game.

Visit the coin show in Grapevine(when there) and have some beer at Hop & Sting Brewery

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
There are so many people that deserve a shoutout and I’m sure I’m going to miss some but here it goes.

All the customers that supported us when we first started online and new customers to this day.. It’s a very tough market to break into and a lot of scammers. They took the chance and let us prove to them why we are a top tier company.

All the dealers we’ve met that’s were willing to share knowledge and offer their friendship.

To Blake and Christie who have helped us so much with their vast knowledge of the industry. And to Jordan and Carrie with Viking Foundry who have given us so much support.
