Meet Kaliyah | CEO of MBK Collection

We had the good fortune of connecting with Kaliyah and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Kaliyah, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
As a freelance makeup artist, I’ve studied modeling makeup, everyday makeup, fashion show makeup, etc. There’s always something about the makeup that absolutely completes the look. For me, it was the lip color or gloss. So i decided to create a gloss line of my favorite glosses. I expanded the brand to a full cosmetic line by adding products as needed for certain looks I’ve created or recreated.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
Here at MBK, we want to create a warm, welcoming environment where women can trade their insecurities for individuality. “I aspire to ignite your inner boss, that sassy voice that says yaassss to courage and empowerment, and no to excuses and doubt.” As a beauty influencer and a leader of women, it’s my mission to encourage women to explore their elements of beauty, inside and out, unleashing self- love in the purest form. I love to see women at their best, at their prettiest, at the peak of the their confidence, embracing all of herself. If we can do that with our appearance, we can do that with all aspects of life. Every journey has its disappointments, and unexpected let downs, I’ve learned the true meaning of patience. Allowing things to unfold in its own timing. MBK is much more than cosmetics, We aspire to inspire women all over the world to unleash that inner beauty and love themselves wholeheartedly.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Downtown Dallas, Deep Ellum is definitely a grown and sexy vibe. Whether it’s for daytime brunch, or night life festivities, you’ll find your cup of tea. I love food, Vidorra, Breadwinners, Yardbird, are my favorites spots for brunch. Gators for the turn up life, with the dope DJ and suntop patio roof, and Del Friscos Steakhouse for date night. I’d have to stop at Key2Skin for relaxing massages, facials, and other girl goodies. Head over to Nailz x Tiarra for a fresh mani and pedi.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
My clients deserve all the love. Being an entrepreneur is hard, but the love from clients and customers seeing them rep the brand is the biggest thank you i could receive. It’s always shout out to them because without you there would be no MBK. Huge shout out to Haleigh Johnson, The Grape Plug. From the moment we met and talked business she has been down for the brand. Loyalty is everything in business. She has been an assistant, a videographer, a model, a promoter, marketing manager, you name it. Always prompt, always paid in full, always showed love. She has done so much behind the scenes to help pull things together, so I’m definitely taking her to the top with me, make sure to check out her business for infused goodies.
