We had the good fortune of connecting with Kalel Santana and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Kalel, why did you decide to pursue a creative path?
I’ve always loved pro wrestling. Ever since I was a little kid. The spectacle, the athletics, the storytelling, the fans appreciation, and the kind of things that can only happen in pro wrestling. I remember growing up, watching it on Saturdays. And then began watching it on Mondays. I would go to my friends house to watch it because they had cable and I didn’t at the time. I was huge fan of Sting, which really ignited my interest to another level. But honestly, my inspiration is Eddie Guerrero. He was great; made me feel like I could do it and made me feel proud to be Latino. I used to go to shows and say to myself “I could do that”. That was years ago. I focused on my family and when I got to a certain level of financial comfort..I really had the itch. I just had to try it out for myself. I’m very creative naturally and can be artistic to a certain degree. So, before I get any older and have regrets. I thought to myself “The time to act is NOW!” I guess, the biggest factor which inspired me to get into pro wrestling was that I wanted to see for myself. Let me see what I can do and how can I leave my mark. Inside amd outside of the ring.
Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
What I think sets me apart from other is my spark, heart, critical thinking, and my ability to adapt to adverse situation. Everything is energy and is our responsibility what we put out there and how we deal with what we receive. Being an alchemist of sorts, where I can take in the negative and transmute it to a positive. That and I don’t quit when I really want something. I think one of the hardest obstacles I’ve ever faced was coming to this country as a kid and not knowing the language very well. Spanish is my first language but I can proudly say now that I can articulate, meticulously. I think I am most proud of being a father first. It’s something I love and I think growing up with a single mother definitely gave me the edge on how to be better at fatherhood. I’m definitely excited as to where life is taking me now compared to where I used to be. It wasn’t easy…. scheduling, taking care of my kids, going to training, adjusting my schedule if necessary, babysitter, work, family, and all the little stuff in-between. But I do think that it helps to build a little character. Some of the lessons that I’ve learned is to not leave things to the last moment. To act when you need to act. To have trust in yourself and sometimes to take a leap of faith. I’ve learned that whatever will be, will be, and what can’t be controlled is something that shouldn’t bother me too much. To focus on the things that I can control. And to focus on the goal and what needs to be done to get there. What I would like for the world to know about me and my story is that I was somebody that stood up when someone needed to stand up. That I spoke out, when someone needed to speak out. And hopefully, inspire people to dare to be different and take a chance on themselves. To follow your intuition, your gut feeling, your heart, and mind. And through pro wrestling, I’m looking to accomplish that but also, in an entertaining way where I can create memories for the fans.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I would take them to Downtown Dallas for a night out. There’s always activities to do there and some really good clubs and restaurants. Crown Block is a phenomenal place for that and you get a 360° view of the whole city. If the Mavs are playing, we could go catch a game. We could go to Texas Rangers Live! or The Star in Frisco, Texas, Which interestingly enough, I help build both of those locations while I was working as a plumber in New Construction years ago. Also, there a lot of pro wrestling in the independent scene in the area, so definitely, something like that. Maybe you can come see me in action! There so many things to do in the DFW area, but I think that as long as your hanging out with ya boy, your going to have a good time! We can definitely get into a little trouble, that’s for sure..
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I’d like to give a shout-out to my family for the encouragement, love, support, and for giving me thar fuel to want to fight every day and for a better tomorrow. Love y’all! Also, I’d like to give a HUGE shout-out to DFW All-Pro Wrestling Academy and my head trainer Lou Gotti for breaking me into the business. Without the great training that I’ve received there, I could not be doing what I’m doing today, safely. So, Big Thanks to them. I’m forever grateful. And shout-out to my inspiration Eddie Guerrero for making a young Guatemalan at the time, believe that he can do it, too!
