We had the good fortune of connecting with K. LA and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi K., we’d love to start by asking you about lessons learned. Is there a lesson you can share with us?
Community is imperative to the wellbeing of your longevity, development, and successes.

Often times as creatives, we pour so much of ourselves into the “occupation portion” of who we are, which then neglects the core of who we are. No one was created to feel or become empty! Life is about checks-and-balances.

Community embodies accountability, a sense of security, love, and a safe haven for you to be and become your truest self.

Please tell us more about your work. We’d love to hear what sets you apart from others, what you are most proud of or excited about. How did you get to where you are today professionally. Was it easy? If not, how did you overcome the challenges? What are the lessons you’ve learned along the way. What do you want the world to know about you or your brand and story?
To say I’m “different than others” would be one loaded statement as a human being, but I WILL say that I believe I am pretty special. I’ll be 26 this October, and so far, I’ve already seen my footprint begin to make an impact; even from right here where I am.

I’ve been doing music, professionally, since the year 2010! I’ve had many days where I’ve been tricked into thinking that the “difference” was what was most important.. Social media has played a huge role in my self-exploration and personal development as well. As an adult, you notice that just as quickly as you can be elevated, you can be humbled. I’m most proud of my individualism and independence, outside of the public eye and attention.

Everyone’s story is pretty unique, but I’ve made it to where I am, so far, because of God’s grace. People come and people go in and out of experience, so to place thanks on only a few would do me no justice. At the end of the day, I sleep well knowing that the battle isn’t mine to fight! That’s as an adult, a creative, a loved one, and anything else in between.

As far as what I would currently like to bring attention to, I am working on my very first, debut, 2-sided EP titled “Libra Love.” It releases on my birthday, October 21!
Back in 2017, I rebranded into the KdotLA everyone knows today. It’s been a journey, but the outcome has been very rewarding. No matter the age, race, moral background, or personal preference… This project has been well thought out, over the span of almost 3 years! It is definitely one to save the date and check into!

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
My favorite places to go for brunch have been “Ida Claire,” “Yolk,” “First Watch,” and “HG Supply

My favorite happy hour is “The Tower,” “ Velvet Taco,” and “Legacy Hall District.”

My favorite place to do dinner is between “ Pappadeaux’s,” “The Freeman Cafe,” “ Carabbas ,” and “Wabi House.” (Or you can keep it simple and hit good ole’ Cheddars!

To hang out, try “chicken and pickle” or “The Boardwalk.” Anything in the Deep Ellum area is a plus!

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I’d like to serve a special shout out and thank you to, two of the most solid individuals in my life, my parents.

You’ve taught me how to forgive the world, when I’ve been so used to building walls to guard the things more important to me. You’ve shown me that even when I feel completely isolated and alone, there’s always at least one person praying for you, at all times.

I love you, forever.
