We had the good fortune of connecting with Justin Vawter and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Justin, how does your business help the community?
NuMinds Enrichment is an education company created and operated by teachers with a clear mission: to empower teachers to deliver real inspired learning.
This means we create forward-thinking curriculum that includes everything a teacher would need for their classroom. It also means providing holistic training for teachers, from mindset and mindfulness to ways to create positive, Zen-like classrooms.
While NuMinds is a business, we have always issued a 10% giving tax to support outreach in underserved areas. We also partner with the non-profit, Education Unbound, to provide services and support to underrepresented areas. Throughout our 10 years, we have provided services in both rural and urban areas as well as worked with refugees across the globe.
We are in business to empower teachers, and we will do everything in our power to grant access to high-quality materials.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I am a professional educator who thrives on teaching kids–it is my heart, and it is my purpose to provide opportunity for education to be real and inspired.
However, following your heart isn’t always ease (or sane!). My business partner and I were both master teachers with advanced degrees who left the security of a teaching positions to create NuMinds. We took risks, we made mistakes, we failed, we learned, we tried again. Along the way we continued to grow in stature and wisdom.
Looking back, I wouldn’t change a thing, and I would share with anyone who has a dream and a vision to go all in. The world needs revolutionaries and when you connect with your purpose, suddenly unseen hands appear.
While the future is never certain, I know that until my last breath, I will strive to learn and grow and use my talents to make this world a better place any way I am able.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
After the iconic spots of Dallas–Reunion Tower, the Nasher, DMA, American Airlines, and Deep Ellum–we’d go a little deeper to witness the heartbeat of the metroplex–Fry street in Denton, rock climbing in the Carrollton silos, Thanksgiving Square and the giant eyeball, the JBS Wetlands, Erwin Park trails, the Kimbell and Fort Worth Modern, and so many other places I’ve come to love in the metroplex!
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Our journey has been fueled by those who believe in education and see the potential to make the experience real and inspired for teachers and students. From the students we’ve worked with, such as Adam Cordeiro and Paisley Elliott, who show us the limitless potential of the young mind; to teachers who have opened their hearts and minds to fuel us with ideas; to the Hamdan Family and their financial support–Maan Hamdan is a global entrepreneur with a genuine heart for education and his wife, Weeda Hamdan, leads with her heart. There are so many others along the way, and I must recognize the endless faith and support of my loving wife and family.
