We had the good fortune of connecting with Justin Matthews and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Justin, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
Originally, I got into Massage as a 5 year buffer while I figured out what I want to be when I grow up. I took a year off after high school and realized I didn’t have a clue, so at 18 years old I signed up for the one career path that excited me. Luckily, during those 5 years, I did figure it out. Within the opening line of my Mission Statement is “…my primary purpose in life is to be a Master Healer, Musician, Writer and Teacher of full- potentiality and Life-Mastery.” And with that intent, I was limited working at Massage Envy, where they wouldn’t let me teach people how to revolutionize their lives, but sadly only how to get more massages by signing up for a membership and “upsizing” it with an add-on. Thus, Omni Massage & Guidance was born, where I can help people with stress management, exercise and stretching routines, posture correction, nutrition, and beyond.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I’ve been a musician longer than a healer. And one of my favorite things is to play a song before or after a session, to inspire my clients, and just share a moment of enjoyment with them. Sometimes I will even play a recording during the session 🙂 It builds the connection between therapist and client, it reveals a creative aspect of myself, and encourages them to do the same. I believe the best healing is achieved through a deeper relationship with my client. Because they are more excited to come, and I am happy to see them. The songs that I have lyrics to say it all. It hasn’t been an easy road. Nobody’s is. If you’re poor, you have financial issues. If you’re rich, you may have drug abuse issues. One way or another, while growing up, this world is bonkers. My personal struggle has traversed through a bully older brother, brain tumor surgery, depression, thoughts of suicide, cripplingly low self-worth, and worst of all, trouble attracting women lol. But having gone through all that, and coming out the other side with a balanced, fulfilled life, and the sweetest lady to call my own, I am absolutely compelled to share what wisdom I’ve gained. I do this through poetic lyrics that point the way, a wisdom-filled book, called The Healthy Lifestyle Manual, that is underway, and through showing up every day. Whether it be a massage appointment, a stress management presentation, or playing songs at a hospice. There are so many ways to share, to inspire, to have fun. Life is a treasure, waiting for those who have yet to discover it.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
If it is gorgeous out, I would take them to Mineral Wells State Park for some rock climbing, or perhaps one of the secret local spots I can only reveal to VIPs, hehe. If it is a sweltering hot summer day, we may just hit up one of the half-dozen Summit Rock Climbing Gyms, which are, in my eyes, the premier gyms in the dfw area. If they’ve never had Torchy’s Tacos, they are going to eat one of the best damn tacos they ever had. I’m talking The Independent, The Democrat, the best fast food guacamole, and the one and only, Hillbilly Queso. If they aren’t quite climbers, and just want to hike, River Legacy in Arlington is my go-to. For hiking and biking. (Not to mention, it’s close to Torchy’s;) Four-Day Weekend would be a strong contender for local novelties. The best improv comedy in the area XD But also, perhaps an open mic night at a Hyena’s, and hopefully they would give it a go with me!

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
Tony Robbins, for being a never-ending source of inspiration and passion. John DeMartini, for being exceptionally useful in carving my vision for my life. Shari Matthews, for being a constant source of stability and love. Thank you mom! Raymond Francis and Jeff Primack, for helping me revolutionize my health
