Meet Julie Moore: Dancer & Creator

We had the good fortune of connecting with Julie Moore and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Julie, can you tell us more about your background and the role it’s played in shaping who you are today?
I’m from Fort Worth, Texas, and I had a little bit of a rough start in life. My family literally began to crumble when I was about 11 years old. Parents divorced, siblings caught in the middle and separated, definitely not an ideal situation, but dance was always a constant in my life. When things at home weren’t looking so bright, I would go to dance and suddenly nothing at home mattered anymore, and everything was perfect. My background and upbringing is what made me who I am today. My dance teachers ended up adopting me when I turned 17, and that is one of the best things that has ever happened to me (besides dance itself). Tough situations can do one of two things to a person: defeat them or light a fire under them. Lucky for me, mine lit a fire under me. I crave success even more because of the hardships I have faced. Because of every single person who told me “no.” Because of every single person who didn’t believe in me. I thank God that I was pulled out of my home situation when I was, but it did have such a huge contribution making me into the strong willed, highly motivated and driven person that I am today.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
Currently, I am most proud of and excited about the apprentice contract I just accepted with Bruce Wood Dance in Dallas, Texas. I started the apprenticeship a few weeks ago, and I have been in complete awe of the dancers I am surrounded by. Their talent is unreal, and I feel as though I have been presented with the most amazing opportunity to train with such exquisite, professional dancers. I am also very proud of attending the Rockette Summer Intensive in 2019, and the work I did at Six Flags Over Texas that same year. I was fortunate enough to be cast in three consecutive seasons at SFOT, and even dance captain in two of them. My ultimate dance dream is to be Radio City Rockette in New York City, but I am very grateful for and open to any and everything that may be thrown my way in the meantime. I feel as though so far in my dance journey I have learned three major lessons: be a sponge, be unapologetically you, and keep pushing forward. Learn from and absorb all information in every environment and any corrections you may be given by teachers and peers. They only want to help you and see you become the best possible version of you. Be confident in who you are. Take some time to discover yourself and how you wish to portray yourself as a dancer and human. Stick with it. Run with it. Finally, don’t take “no” personally. It’s easy to get caught up in everything you feel that you are doing wrong, and all of the auditions you may feel as though you have failed. You haven’t failed, you are simply learning and improving every day. You are your toughest critic, and you just might not be what they are looking for at that very moment. That’s okay. Keep. Going.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Sundance Square is a must. The atmosphere is beautiful and there are so many cute shops and restaurants around. The Stockyards is also a Fort Worth staple of course. My favorite restaurant in Fort Worth is Joe T Garcia’s. Their chicken fajitas are amazing and their margaritas are bomb. Other than that, I love to take walks on the Trinity Trails. The trails themselves are pretty long but there are lots of beautiful spots throughout them!
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I would like to shoutout my mothers, Whitney and Lindsay, my sister, Alexa, the faculty at Foot Works Performing Arts Center (the dance studio I grew up at), my supportive friends and family, and all of the dance mentors and teachers I have encountered on my journey who have helped me in any way, big or small. From the bottom of my heart, thank you so much!
