We had the good fortune of connecting with Julian Roman and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Julian, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
The process of building RomanTic Cosmetics was out of making my dreams a reality. Ever since I was young and I discovered makeup I wanted my own brand. Growing up I didn’t know if guys could do such a thing and I was always scared of having my own business, but during my high school years people called my MannyMua and never knew who that was. Then one day I looked him up and saw it was a male in makeup and from there I knew it was possible. Then fast forward Covid lockdown I really thought about laughing my own brand more and more then I finally sat my family down and told my dream. I knew I wanted this brand to be close to my heart and represent me 100% so I named it after my last name Roman and added the Tic at the end and it became RomanTic Cosmetics.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
As I get older and RomanTic Cosmetics grows with me I really want people to show love within themselves. I say that because growing gay in a Hispanic household was sort of a mind bend for me. I had to know when and where to be me.

As time went on I really pushed the real me away and never got to be ME. I often get told “your so mature for your age…” and I say “oh I was blessed with amazing parents..” which I 100% am but deep in my mind I grew up quick to push the real me away deep inside. So if I couldn’t be me I’ll be the opposite me. Fitting into the normal male roles and just a people pleaser.

It wasn’t till recently about 1 month ago I reflected back on my child hood and saw how much of me was pushed away deep inside. Yes people knew I was gay but I would sometimes dodge the question.

I can now say I truly love me for me and am not gonna apologize for being ME.
RomanTic Cosmetics is all about inner peace and love. Love you for you and don’t change for others approval. Live your truth and never apologize.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Honestly if me and my best friend are together we are going to Pollo Salsa in Grand Prairie and getting Asada Fries with a Mexican coke and just chat. Then go home and watch movies together with my family. I’m not really and going out person honestly I just love the simplicity of just sitting, eating and chatting. We don’t have spend money everywhere to have fun just be in the moment and make those moments count.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
For major recognition I would have to say my Parents, sibling and my best friend. When I first sat my family down to tell them my dreams and aspirations they totally supported and still do. They have always wanted to push ourselves to the best of our ability and really make something out of ourselves. They were beyond helpful in choosing my final lash boxes even up to the styles and really gave amazing input.

For my best friend I’ve known her since 6th grade and since then we’ve been inseparable. We have always supported and been there for one another through the good and bad times. When I first showed her my rough draft logo she was beyond excited for me. She knows I love makeup and I’m always telling her new launches from other brand so getting to tell her MY OWN LAUNCHES was a major thing. To this day she has always shown constant love and support and never ask for anything free (which has happened from people) and that’s a true friend.
