We had the good fortune of connecting with Juan Gilbert and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Juan, what role has risk played in your life or career?
We believe that when it comes to risk taking you must first be 100% sure that you truly love what you do, set out a plan, and never quit.
What should our readers know about your business?
We own Juan and Allie’s BBQ in the small but great town of Sunset Tx. My wife and I had separate jobs and when my wife got laid off after getting hit by two eighteen wheelers it was hard to make ends meet to the point we were getting evicted from our home. My wife Allie told me to quit my job and take a chance on cooking my BBQ and we would do it together
The first day we sold outside in front of a laundry Mat. We made nothing that day. The second day we made twelve dollars. Then the word got around about how good it good was by giving out free samples. The rest is history
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
We would take them to the rab station in Fort Worth, then the railhead BBQ, and Reds BBQ. And last but not last, Lola’s. All in Fort Worth.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
There are too many to name but I can thank Brandon Emmitt for recommending me, Quinton Burks for making this all happen, Mike Fisher, Steve Buyers, Willie James, Bryce Todd, and Tyson Loos for coming thru for us when times were tough.
