We had the good fortune of connecting with Josh Montez and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Josh, what habits do you feel helped you succeed?
A few key habits that helped me succeed are staying organized, being reliable, and always looking for ways to improve. I make it a point to show up on time, follow through on what I say, and take ownership of my work. I also try to learn from mistakes instead of getting stuck on them. Even small, consistent efforts every day make a big difference over time.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
What sets me apart is that I’ve never let failure define me. I’m always searching — not just for better outcomes, but for the kind of creative work I truly want to be a part of. The journey hasn’t been easy. I’ve heard “no” more times than I can count, and I didn’t always handle setbacks the way I do now. But I grew. I asked questions when I didn’t understand. I owned my mistakes. I gave people chances, and I forgave — including myself. I don’t hold grudges; I treat every experience, good or bad, as something to learn from.

At the end of the day, I want to be remembered as someone who loves music, loves his family, and stayed grounded — no matter how far from home the road took him. I’m just a regular guy, grateful to still be doing what he loves.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I live in Fort Worth, TX, so I’d start by taking them to the Stockyards to get a real feel for the city’s roots. Then we’d grab lunch at Terry Black’s BBQ , can’t go wrong there. After that, we’d catch a show at one of my favorite local spots, Tulips, and wrap up the night overlooking the city from my place. The view’s hard to beat.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I want to dedicate this shoutout to the people who’ve truly been there for me — my fiancée Baylie, my mom Huyen, my brother Travis, and my sister Nicole. They’ve stood by me through the toughest times and celebrated my biggest wins. When the noise fades and the crowd disappears, you find out who really has your back — and they always have. Since day one, they’ve believed in me and never wavered. At the end of the day, nothing means more than family.
