We had the good fortune of connecting with Jorge Gallegos and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Jorge, what role has risk played in your life or career?
Risks are necessary to take, especially if you’re reaching for the stars. Taking risks has always been part of my life and career. For example, right after I finished University in Mexico, I decided to move to the States. I somehow ended up in East Texas, working in a fast-food restaurant. However, that taught me resilience and fueled my desire to achieve more. After almost two years there, I moved to Dallas. Within the first 24 hours of being in the city, I got a job, and my creativity and passion for photography got me a job with a gay dating app. That took me to New York City, where I took the most significant risk of my life and career, moving there. It wasn’t planned. It just happened. I stayed with friends; couch surfed with strangers until I found my apartment. Living in New York City taught me about hard work, dedication, and authenticity.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
“At the beginning of my blogger career, I was trying so hard to “fit in” within the men’s wear scene, so I was dressing super dapper and going for that style because I thought that’s what the people wanted to see. But after leaving NYC in 2016 and going back to Texas, I started shifting my focus from men’s wear to lifestyle and LGBTQ travel and showcasing more of who I am.

“I consider myself as someone creative, fun, and always thinking outside the box. I’m glad the fashion industry is embracing all types of content creators because, back in the day, I was afraid of being ‘too queer’ or ‘too risque’ on my posts out of fear of driving brand partnerships away. Nowadays, I share my personal queer experience and body without shame or fear because what I want my followers to see when they come to my page is someone confident with himself, who loves every single thing about him (flaws and all), in hopes that they start being unapologetically themselves and love themselves for that.”

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Well, it’s funny you ask… because my best friend Michael is coming to visit me here in Dallas and it’s going to be his first time in the Big D, so let me tell you what I have planned.

Friday night, we are heading to It’ll Do because we are both house music lovers, and I want to show him my little piece of heaven in Dallas.

Saturday will be a cultural day, exploring the Nasher Sculpture Center, DMA, and Klyde Warren Park. Followed by drinks at Royal 38 and dinner at Perry’s. After that, we will hit Oak Lawn for a night of debauchery, starting at TMC, followed by Mister Misster, and ending our soiree at The Round-up.

For Sunday, it wouldn’t be brunch without a Drag Brunch. So we will head to The Commons at the Virgin Hotel. After that, we will hit Oak Lawn again for Sunday Funday at JRS.

Monday morning, we will explore Oak Cliff, starting with breakfast at Xaman Cafe, then donuts at The Salty Donut, and just sight-seeing the neighborhood. Monday afternoon, I’ll take him on the Katy Trail, and we will finish with drinks and dinner at The Katy Trail Ice House.

Tuesday morning will be shopping day at North Park, followed by lunch at Nordstrom’s Cafe. Right after, we will head over to Highland Park Village for a drink at Honor Bar before we spend some money on clothes. Since we are in the area, we will have dinner at Mi Cocina.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
Without a doubt, I couldn’t have achieved any of this without the support of my family. My parents have been highly supportive and the biggest believers in me. When my mom was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2018, I told her I would go back to Mexico to be with her, but she told me not to. Because she knew I was pursuing my dreams, and she knew she would be fine. And she is! They came to visit me last year, and we celebrated her birthday together for the first time since I moved to the US twelve years ago. So yes, thank you Mom, Dad and of course, my brother for always believing in me and my dreams.
