Meet Jonathan Young | CEO & Head Baker

We had the good fortune of connecting with Jonathan Young and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Jonathan, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
Starting my own business came from a mix of passion, purpose, and the realization that I wanted more than just a job—I wanted to build something meaningful. I’ve always loved baking, but it wasn’t until people started raving about my cinnamon rolls and asking for more that I thought, “What if I could turn this into something real?”
At the time, I was working a full-time job and baking after hours, but I felt this pull toward creating a space where my food could bring comfort, joy, and connection. I didn’t have all the answers, but I had the drive to try. I knew it wouldn’t be easy, but I believed in the vision of building something from the ground up—something that reflected my creativity, my work ethic, and my love for people. That’s how The Cozy Oven was born.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
The Cozy Oven is more than just a bakery—it’s a dream in motion. We specialize in handcrafted cinnamon rolls, sweet loaves, cupcakes, and other pastries that are made with heart, premium ingredients, and a focus on comfort and quality. Every item is thoughtfully made to spark joy and bring a little warmth to someone’s day.
What sets us apart is the soul behind every bite. We’re not mass-producing pastries—we’re creating experiences. From the packaging to the flavors to the little personal touches, everything is designed to feel intentional, elevated, and welcoming. It’s luxury without being cold. It’s home without being basic. That’s the Cozy Oven difference.
Getting here hasn’t been easy. I started by baking after my 7–3 job, trying to keep up with orders at night and prepping for weekend markets on little sleep. There were times I wondered if it was even possible to make this work full-time—but I kept going. I listened to feedback, refined my recipes, showed up even when I was discouraged, and trusted that the dream was bigger than the fear.
One of the biggest lessons I’ve learned is that belief carries you further than perfection ever could. You don’t have to have it all figured out—you just have to start. And keep showing up.
I’m most proud of the fact that this business started from scratch and is now something people know, love, and come back to. I’m even more excited about where it’s going. The Cozy Oven is just getting started. My vision is to take this from a home-based brand to a nationwide name—and I’m working every day to make that happen.
What I want the world to know is that behind this brand is someone who truly cares. Someone who wants you to feel seen, comforted, and appreciated through something as simple as a cinnamon roll. This isn’t just a bakery—it’s a dream baked fresh every single day.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Day 1: Welcome to Fort Worth
We’d kick things off in the Stockyards—because you have to experience that classic Fort Worth energy. We’d catch the cattle drive, grab dinner at Joe T. Garcia’s (can’t beat the patio), and maybe end the night with live music and a margarita at Billy Bob’s.
Day 2: Coffee + Culture
We’d start the day with lattes and pastries at Roots Coffeehouse or Arcadia (both super cozy), then head to the Kimbell Art Museum and the Modern for a dose of culture. Lunch at Cafe Modern, then a chill evening walk through the Fort Worth Botanic Garden.
Day 3: Local Gems + Shopping
We’d hit Magnolia Avenue—check out Melt Ice Creams, shop around the boutiques, and grab lunch at Heim BBQ (yes, the bacon burnt ends are worth it). Then maybe unwind with a drink at Hotel Dryce—it’s a vibe.
Day 4: A Little Day Trip
Take a drive to Grapevine or head to Dallas for the day. We’d stop by the Bishop Arts District for cool shops and incredible food—Emporium Pies, anyone? Or swing through Deep Ellum for murals, coffee, and good energy.
Day 5: Foodie Adventure
We’d spend the day restaurant-hopping: brunch at The Beast & Co., afternoon drinks at Thompson’s downtown, and dinner at Don Artemio or Clay Pigeon. Fort Worth has serious culinary talent, and I love showing that off.
Day 6: Chill and Connect
Maybe a slower day—breakfast from a local bakery (hopefully The Cozy Oven!), then hang out at Trinity Park or rent bikes and ride along the trails. We could catch a movie at the Coyote Drive-In and just relax.
Day 7: Sunday Vibes
Wrap it all up with Sunday brunch at Press Cafe overlooking the river. Then a stop at The Foundry District to check out some art and shops before sending them off full, happy, and in love with Fort Worth.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Absolutely. I wouldn’t be where I am today without the love and support of the people around me. I want to dedicate this shoutout to a few key people who’ve made a lasting impact on my journey.
First, my dad. He passed away when I was just two years old, but there are photos of me standing on a step stool next to him in the kitchen, trying to help. I may not remember those moments clearly, but I truly believe that’s where my love for baking began. That image is where it all started.
Next, my mom—my biggest supporter and constant source of strength. She has been there for me through absolutely everything. From late-night prep to emotional ups and downs, she’s stood beside me, encouraged me, and reminded me of my worth even when I doubted it. Her support is the foundation of everything I’ve built.
I also want to recognize my former boss, Cindy Standifer. Leaving her was one of the hardest choices I’ve ever made, but she gave me nothing but grace and encouragement to chase this dream. To have her continued support as I grow The Cozy Oven means more than words can say.
And finally, a big shoutout to Sweet Success by Candace Nelson. That book gave me the confidence to believe in something bigger than myself. It showed me that passion and persistence can turn a dream into a business—and a business into a legacy.
And of course, to my community—the customers who keep showing up, spreading the word, and believing in what I’m building—thank you. You remind me daily why I do this.
