We had the good fortune of connecting with Jon Harding and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Jon, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
When I first started apprenticing and tattooing the industry was very different. For most tattooers the goal was to find a busy shop and settle down. Instagram just became a thing my first year in tattooing and I realized the power of marketing through social media. Socials allowed me to stay busy and not depend on a shops reputation or clients in order for me to work. Because of that, it just made sense to me, to branch out and do my own thing.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I am a Dallas based tattooer of 10 years. I started my foundation in American traditional tattooing and lettering. Over the years I have studied other styles and developed a style that I can call my own. I am well rounded in all aspects of tattooing, but am most known for my black and grey Chicano style work, and lettering. I have been recognized and published in tattoo collectives for my black and grey and lettering.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I love Dallas and have lived here my entire life. If visiting I would recommend making the trip to Hutchins BBQ and experiencing REAL Texas bbq culture. I enjoy the music scene we have here as well. Some of my favorite nights are at the freeman open mic and popping next door for a burger from adairs. Now that I have a daughter, my nights out are few and far between, but I enjoy comedy shows or going to a stars game when I can.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I want to dedicate this to my mentor and legend “Boog”. Who lost his battle to cancer in 2021
