We had the good fortune of connecting with John Brown and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi John, we’d love to hear about how you approach risk and risk-taking
“No risk , no reward” as the saying goes. Being an entrepreneur , as well as being a young black man in America comes with its own set of risk within itself. Moving from Compton,CA to Dallas,TX, without any specific direction as to what i was going to be doing was probably the biggest risk I’ve taken in my life. However, I wouldn’t be here answering these questions had i not.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I’ve spent the majority of my life primarily as an hip-hop artist, with a genuine love for the culture.I have had the opportunity to mark off quite a few bucket list items in that field. As an artist , i am most proud of the fact that i am achieving my goals without compromising my integrity. My journey has been anything but easy, but adversity builds character, and i was not built to fold. The ability to overcome the challenges , stems from life’s experiences, lessons learned along the way. Not repeating the same mistakes, and reaching out to those who have been in my position for insight. Consistency, good business practices, building relationships, giving back/supporting others are some of the things that have helped me along the way. One thing i want people to know is that YOU are in control of YOUR destiny. What is meant for you is meant for you, Do not expect others to see your vision, or to share your passion for your vision. The motivation and drive has to come from within. AllOva media is a direct reflection of this, and i am proud of where we are , and excited about where we are headed.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Del Frisco’s or Perry’s for the meal Galaxy 9 at “The Nines’ for the entertainment. Bishop arts district, or Deep Ellum for a little Dallas culture. I would introduce them to the independent artist scene here in the DFW which is flourishing, most of my friends are involved in the arts in some form or fashion, so i would spend time cultivating some relationships that could possibly lead to some mutual opportunities.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I would like to thank god for creating me in his image. My mother for instilling morals and values in me, and allowing me to grow into who i am. My business partners Brandon Clark and Rodney Tillis for helping me see the vision through , and putting in the necessary work to make this dream come to reality. Shout to Brandon Ricks for assisting us with the foundation of the company as well. To my fiance, my muse, for allowing me the time and space to create, and facilitating everything that i do , which allows me the opportunity to do what i do best. And lastly, shoutout to the circle of success that we have created, which is a group of like minded Individuals, coming together for a common goal, those involved know who they are (Too many to name lol)
