We had the good fortune of connecting with Jofonz Govan and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Jofonz, Let’s talk about principles and values – what matters to you most?
I have a couple.. I’d say authenticity and integrity. I consider myself a very genuine and thoughtful person in everything I do.. In my humble opinion when you are authentic and have integrity you understand your value and won’t compromise your morality.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I consider myself a humanitarian. I love to help people. I’ve done many charitable things in my profession as a barber as well as in my personal life with volunteer work . But I wanted to do more. I always wanted to help foster children for some reason..I wanted to use my talents to help others. I’ve had the experience of cutting different foster children while in barber school. Then professionally I cut the hair of a special foster child who really motivated me to pursue helping foster children. The only thing was I didn’t know how to proceed.. One of my clients actually runs a nonprofit for at risk youth. I inquired more and told him about my idea to help foster children. He actually took his time and helped me to build a game plan to get it started. It was a journey. It took a lot of patience and consistency. We are just getting started, but we have helped quite a bit of foster children in the DFW metroplex since launching.. One of the biggest challenges we face as a growing nonprofit is building awareness and reaching the right audience. .We’re working hard to expand our visibility to attract more supporters and regular contributors. Our nonprofits name is Styled For Success Youth Foundation. Our goal is to empower foster children. We provide them free hair services and hygiene essential care packages and more. We hope to help them build confidence and to know that they have people in their corner who really value them. Our biggest goal with our services would be to better increase their chances of getting adopted into loving families.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
DFW has a lot to offer. Explore the city. Good food at The Daiquiri Shoppe in Grand Prairie..Oooweee Wangz N Catfish in Fort Worth..Wingfields Burger in Oakcliff just to name a few.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
My wife Jill Govan. She’s amazing.
