We had the good fortune of connecting with Jessica Pope and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Jessica, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
Honestly? I fell in love with really eye catching lipstick. Seeing celebrities like Kiesha Kaoir and Black Chyna sport blues, yellows, and greens made me want to provide a product that truly accentuated melanated skin while empowering women to stand out!

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
As a creative, it was so important that I allowed myself to dream big with the confidence that I can procure every detail in a reality that impacts everyone around me. I am most proud of the fact that each piece of content, each design, each idea stemmed from us embracing our femininity and realizing we are enough as is. It has been my life’s mission to seek myself in all things, thus giving the compassion people deserve and also the flexibility to change into something I hadn’t imagined. Each connection, each relationship works together to create Luxury Lips Oils and Lash. It has not been easy. Trying to be consistent with the energy, motivation, and excitement can be difficult when it doesn’t appear to yield the results you had hoped for. However I have found that success is just on the other side of perceived defeat. You have to bet on you and know that you will not stop until you have succeeded. I have learned that it is important to receive feedback positively, build relationships everywhere you go in all industries, customer service is just as important as the product you are selling, and lastly trust yourself and your vision; it was given to you. Everyone might not be able to comprehend what you have been directly aligned with and that’s ok! You were meant to stick out and break barriers, not conform to the fears and limitations of others. What I really want people to understand about our brand and our story is how regular we are. LOL. Myself and Brittany have been friends since high school and one of the greatest things about our relationship is how often and how well we edify each other. It is from this safe space filled with love and support that LLOL was birthed with a vision to connect multiple women in that same safe space. LLOL is more than a product, it is the innovation of sisterhood and the encouragement to live loudly and take up space.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I would definitely have to take them to one of my favorite black owned bars Whiskeys, in Deep Ellum. From the vibe, to the service, and the knowledgeable mixologists it is definitely a space to chill and relax. Another great space to be with great culture and vibrant artwork works is Bishop Arts district. Too many restaurants to count and there is always something amazing to see and do. Emporium pies are a must see and experience.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I most definitely have to give immediate praise and recognition to my best friend and business partner LLOL CFO Brittany Banks. Without her the dream would merely be a vision. Her unwavering support has kept me motivated and innovative. I am not just trying to win for me, it is for her too.
