We had the good fortune of connecting with Jessica Housewright and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Jessica, what role has risk played in your life or career?
I do not really look at myself as a risk taker. I look at risk as opportunities. You will never miss an opportunity you did not work towards. We are sometimes afraid to set goals that might be too big or too far away. You are the only one that limits how far and how quickly you move.

Every opportunity I have had in my life has been perfectly positioned when I am ready to see it. I left a job after almost 8 years to create my own path. Was it scary and to some a risk? Yes. To me it was an opportunity to grow and expand myself to create something better for my daughter and myself. In the opportunity did I have risk…sure I did not know anything about business but what I did have was the skill set and knowledge to grow.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Growing up, I was obsessed with hair. Everyone around me, including my dad and my Barbie dolls had barrettes in their hair. It took me many years to turn my passion into my career though.

I grew up in a small town in south Georgia before moving to Atlanta after graduating from high school. I had a few different career paths before I finally enrolled in cosmetology school in 2009. I knew I always wanted to do hair but growing up in a small town so many people want to say you go to beauty school if you cant make it in collage. Well let me tell you something, cosmetology school was the best decision I ever made.

Fast Forward to 2021, I’m living my dream! I own a luxury laid-back salon suite in Frisco, TX. Where we specialize in dimensional color and hair extensions. As a mom and a business owner I know how important it is to feel special, pampered and beautiful all in one. When you sit in our chairs we like to connect and understand your needs. We create customized looks and colors for every guest. Our team strives to provide everyone with the best possible experience from the moment they walk through the door.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
DFW has so many options! Whether a family get away, date night or the perfect staycation DFW has it.

Fort Worth has the oh so fun Stockyards. The long horns walk twice daily, go to a rodeo or dance the night away at Billy Bobs.

Dallas, has so many amazing restaurants and beautiful attractions to see. For brunch I love The Beverly, its such a chic bistro. Dinner I enjoy Town Hearth for steak or Nobu for sushi. I enjoy walking through the Perot Museum with my daughter, she loves dinosaurs. One of my favorite things to do is to attend a show at the Music Hall at Fair Park.

Places for fun staycations. Anatole Dallas, has a nice pool with a fun water park for kids plus an adults only section. My favorite staycation is the Four Seasons Los Colinas, absolutely beautiful inside and out. Pools, tennis, golf, and dinning.

North Dallas, up near me. The Star in Frisco and The Shops or Legacy in Plano are full of shopping and dinning. You can find something for everyone.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I actually have a few people that id like to shoutout. First my mom Theresa, she has always supported me in everything that I have wanted to do. When I wanted to start my own business it was no different. Being a business owner of her own she was able to guide me in the steps I need to follow to have a legal functioning business.

Second, my tier one stylist Kaycee Walker. She has been with me since before day one. She took a huge chance by leaving her job to help me follow my dreams. She does more for me then I ever could have imagined. She brings such light to the salon with her upbeat personality, Everyone that walks through the door just loves seeing her smiling face under those cute hats. Bonus she does great hair!

third, my friend Will. that I met a year and a half ago. Sometimes people walk into your life at the right time and boy can I say it was the exact right time. He helped me take my business to the next level much faster then I could of myself. He pushed me and encouraged me every set of the way. From recommending books, showing me a different way of seeing things, to introducing me to people that would inspire me to be better.

A huge thank you to you both. I wouldn’t be here without you!
