We had the good fortune of connecting with Jessica Gram and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Jessica, what is the most important factor behind your success?
I truly am in love with my craft. Hand painted work is a beautiful, delicate art. Like a fingerprint, balayage is equally unique to the individual. I think my success comes from my passion for my craft. In turn my clients get to visualize that commitment everyday in the mirror.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
When I became I mother 6 years ago is when I really started noticing how perfectly placed highlights children have. That has sort of been a reference point iN my brain for almost every client. The way the sun would kiss the hair is the way I look at light and shadow when I’m hand painting. I love building strong sun bleached dimension on blondes that have a seamless grow in (one of the many benefits of hand painted highlights) No root line and healthier application!
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Ooooo! So many great restaurants in Dallas but my favorite favorite is Le Bilboquet. I dream about their warm goat cheese and roasted pear salad. Also, Grounds and gold is my favorite little breakfast/coffee joint. Lula Bs, Dolly Python, and TBC are some of my favorite shopping!
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
My most memorable/favorite mentor was an older French gentleman named Hubert that I apprenticed under in New York at the Frederic Fekkai salon off 5th Ave. He would hand carve his paintbrushes and to watch him balayage hair was like watching Picasso. It was a beautiful sight. Im grateful for that time with him. His training really inspired my career.
