We had the good fortune of connecting with Jerriel James and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Jerriel, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
Theres top tier talent in the Dallas Fort Worth area. I’ve seen and absorbed it my entire life but it always seemed on a local level to my young eyes. Growing up I thought Erykah Badu was the 1st and only person to make waves outside of Gospel in my area. I got older and learned about DOC and what he did for rap wondered who else did I not only I but the world overlook. Wanting to see my cities break through is what spawned Kingdoms Connected Music Group. Its an initiative to help build up my brothers and sisters and work together to show the world the talent and expertise that exist here. There will always be competition, we all want to be the best but theres also a common interest, to break out and set ourselves apart. With artists like Bobby Sessions, Yella Beezy and LaVoyce making big moves currently I want more than ever to do my part in solidifying the DFW as one of the best places in music. Kingdoms Connected.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
What sets me apart from others is my patience and that I have a real love for music. I came into my career with an understanding that its not about overnight sucess. I’ll sustain myself however I need to until doing what i love also pays the bills. I’m from the hood in Fort Worth TX but i chose to do it the school way and still ended up feeling like i was heading into a dead in. There’s nothing wrong with blue collar or white collar work but i personally knew at some point whatever i did would have to be on my own time. It’s been a struggle I work full time and building my business full time but I love it because its my future its something i can leave behind. I want my grandkids and their kids to be able to say they are proud of what I did. Legacy means something, we refer to pride as a bad thing and it is when its foolish but theres nothing foolish about taking pride in your work or family and friends. A book called The Alchemist was suggested to me and put me on this path, I’d also suggest everyone read that and start our own journey to what this life has for you.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Theres so many places to go here in the DFW, but I’m a big man and I’d have to say starting with some food spots. One my favorite places that has great tacos is Tacos La Banqueta Puro DF but theres so many different type of food available here it would take more than a week to really make rounds. When it comes to night life Fort Worth has 7th St and Dallas has Deep Ellum. With people from all over the US moving to Texas is definitely a melting pot now.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
It may sound cliche but it has to be God first and my mom, though shes no longer here with me she pushed me to chase my dreams and told me it was never to late to take on this career. Also my brothers and sister Classik Mussik, Raffinee and Jonathan, my wife Latrevia my best friend Adriana and my kids. Family is a big deal and that drives me. Producers J Rhodes, Lonestarr and Oktober 1st as well the whole cast of House of Beats Season 2 which will be out soon so be on the lookout for that.
