We had the good fortune of connecting with Jerrell Trulove and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Jerrell, why did you decide to pursue a creative path?
Like most people, I know the dread of going to a 9 to 5 every day for years that is not fulfilling or enjoyable. So whether it be picking up my first camera or publishing my first book, my inspiration for pursuing a creative career is rooted in building a lifestyle that is both profitable AND fulfilling. I’m sure there are lots of people that don’t mind the 9-to-5 life but being able to be fulfilled by the work I do is what drives me. Additionally, I want to be able to say that I was bold enough to try the many creative endeavors and ideas I had because I don’t want to look back on life wondering what if.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
Over the past three years as a professional wedding photographer and most recently a husband I have had a first-hand account of the seriousness, the gravity, and the emotion that is involved in relationships and marriage. I’ve recently published my first book titled Friends First and it is my gift to those looking for love and wondering why they can’t find it. Although I have enjoyed my career as a wedding photographer I consider this book to be the most important thing I’ve ever done. What makes this book different is the fact that it covers what to do before the dates, before the 90-day rule, and before the wedding ring. It offers practical advice for how to meet people and more importantly how to interact with them in a healthy way. It is a result of personal experience, connecting with others, and having a front-row seat to love on many, many occasions. One of the most important lessons I’ve learned in my journey of writing this book and capturing weddings is that marriage and life are serious business. Lifetime commitment and relationships are not something to take lightly and not something to enter into hastily. My ultimate goal is to help as many people as possible enjoy healthy, successful relationships. Whether it be capturing their wedding from behind the camera or inspiring them to approach relationships differently via my words, I want to see people learn how to pick better and win at relationships. I want everyone to know that you can achieve relationship success as long as you have the right tools and you move in the correct way.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
For a weeklong trip in Austin, the very first thing I would suggest is visiting the domain and spending the day there. Shopping, eating, and drinking all in one convenient location.
On day two, we’d hit up some of the great barbecue spots in Austin and try out the many food truck courts scattered across the city.
Day three would consist of live music or a concert depending on who is in town followed by drinks and light bites at P3.
On day four we’d most check out ladybird lake to detox from all the food in the form of a walk or a nice picnic. Day five would be visiting a pop up shop or farmers market followed by a trip to lesser-known spot such as Swift’s attic or a newer spot such as Meanwhile brewery (so dope)
Day six is two words. Rainey Street. Grabbing more food truck food and definitely checking out the 200 plus beers on tap at Bangerz.
Day seven, breakfast at snooze before catching a late afternoon flight home.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I want to give a shout-out to my incredible wife. Through her friendship, support, and love I have been able to do more and go further and I could not be happier with the gift God has given me. She’s my best friend and a gem.
