We had the good fortune of connecting with JerLisa Nicole and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi JerLisa, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
I’ve always been there to help friends plan looks for every day, as well as big events like concerts, birthdays and weddings. Once more people began to ask more often, I knew I needed to take fashion and styling more serious. I wanted to broaden everyone’s views of clothing and how to create looks that fit their style with a flair of something new in each way. Thus Lil Girl Blue was born.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I created Lil Girl Blue to be an all encompassing platform for the things I’m working on. Styling is my favorite because I can incorporate creativity in so many ways. All of my looks start with my sneakers, and from the ground up I love playing with color combinations, textures, and movement to achieve a look you wouldn’t think of off the top of your head. When styling clients I try to always add in something that ties back to my personal style, so you’ll always find a hint of blue, name necklace, Afro pik, or an accessory to make others say “JerLisa usually does that”. I love having a brand familiarity that doesn’t require much thought or effort from my audience. After a while I wanted to do more to expand the creativity and allow people to experience my ideas beyond just clothing. I recently launched my latest venture, Wavelength. I spent a year in the Dallas nightlife industry promoting and creating events and saw a pain point. Through that I’ve worked on pop up parties, dinner parties, and curated events to bring a different wave of fun to the Dallas party scene. So be on the lookout for the name and flyers!

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I’ve only been in Dallas 2 and a half years so I’m admittedly still learning and creating favorite spots. Some of my must see spots include – Trinity Groves especially the bridge. There’s great photo opportunities as well as an amazing view of the skyline. – Grapevine Mall (for the deals) and the Galleria Mall (for anything still needed) – Trappiest Hour at Level Nightclub and OT Tavern. Originally my favorite event in the city, and what ultimately made me fall in love with the Dallas party scene. – Snooze AM Eatery for brunch on the weekends. The food is amazing. – Rudy’s Chicken as often as possible – Dallas Sunday Funday precovid was like the party Olympics weekly. Whenever someone comes into town I prep them all week for Sunday Funday

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I wouldn’t be half as far in this journey if it wasn’t for Attah and Lauren Houston. What started as working together for nightlife and event promotions turned into an amazing familial support system. Attah has been a business mentor as well as a brother figure. When I’m having a creative block or feeling discouraged that’s the first person I call for guidance. Lauren has been there to keep mental and emotional support steady amongst many other things. When all the work is done I send them the final product first because of the home team loves it then it’s usually a go. So this shoutout goes to “the captains”!
