We had the good fortune of connecting with Jeremy Lavergne and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Jeremy, what habits do you feel play an important role in your life?
I honestly believe my success is and will continue to be attributed to being a hard worker, networking, and my relationship with God. Starting my own production company was not easy at all. I was known for only playing drums more than anything. Being blessed to work with a few Artist and network with them and other musicians, it helped me first see where my gifts could supply a need. Networking usually comes easy to me and so does being a hard worker. Most days I will practice at least 4 hours just because I want to always be ready in any situation. Last and most importantly, God has been in my life since I can remember being born. Being brought up in the church you tend to always here you are going to do great things for him and most disregard it over time but it motivated me to seek him even more and let him direct my path. I now play keys, drums, program, and make drum loops and beats.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
What sets me apart from everyone else are a few things but I have to highlight my work ethic. There’s an old quote I took to heart when I was younger, “Hard work beats talent when talent fails to work hard”. Talent was there in the beginning but I have to work hard consistently to achieve and maintain. It’s one of the main reasons I’ve reached the place I am today. Working hard is never easy! I’ve been depressed, upset, frustrated, and have even felt like giving up, but I will always refuse to because there’s always greater around the corner. One thing I’d like the world to know is that when you feel like you’re looked over, push harder and just always work hard and stay humble. Your time is coming, just be ready.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Anytime you’re in Texas there are key places you have to try, Fuel City or City View Tacos have some of the best street tacos ever! Check out the Deep Elum scene, it has something to offer everyone! The Texas fairgrounds, and the Black History Museum is always great. The Black Academy Of Arts and Letters (TBAAL) downtown is a gem all in itself as well as the Bishop Arts District. One of my favorite pizza places, Brothers Pizza in Grand Prairie will always be great! Lastly, you have to check out the Freeman in downtown.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
First I have to thank God! He gave me the ability to do these things and continues to connect me with other great people on this journey. Tim Thompson, a drummer from Dallas who I watched and studied. Calvin Rodgers, who I fortunate to watch and study while playing for artist like Fred Hammond and Israel Houghton. Marcus Beecham, he took me under his wing and mentors me. Mike “Mike Mike” Robinson, taught me the “ins and outs” of playing keys, recording, and programming. Dexter Coleman, who pushes me to always learn more. Lastly, My Father and Mother who invested in me to get here. I hope become as great as all these people above are.
