We had the good fortune of connecting with Jenny Dean and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Jenny, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
I feel like I have been groomed to own my own gym my whole life. My parents raised us around fitness. It has always been a part of my life. After kids I made it a full Time career teaching 12-14 classes a week.. I built a strong community and life long friendships . I have always wanted people to feel good about themselves. And I believe being in shape gives you an extreme amount of confidence. I played with the idea of owning my own studio for about 5 years. Every year I tried to open up a fitness studio. But it was never the right timing. God has an amazing way of making you go through stuff so you can come out a better and smarter person.
I had to learn my self worth and figured out I could do it better than most of the owners I knew. So I went out on my own during the pandemic and haven’t looked back. It was all gods timing. I was just following his plan. No fear, no anxiety. Just saw my path so clear that I had to give it my all.
And.. here we are.
Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
KARMA fitness studio is a one stop shop. I have been an avid gym hopper for over a decade. I soon realized that there wasn’t a space that had it all. Meaning, a yoga room, a fitness room, meditation, and stretching.
I believe in the BIG picture. My vision for karma has always been you get it all here! We have self development workshops, bible studies, mediation classes and if you want your butt kicked we have that too!!
I want people to leave KARMA a different person. Better than you came in. Working out gives us endorphins which automatically makes you more pleasant to be around.
But I also believe in the WORK IN… you can have a six pack.. but be a miserable person. There’s no good in that! I want people to understand that we have to take care of ourselves mentally just as much as physically. No one else will do it for you!
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
We would start our day getting smoothies at the clean juice bar. Then take a class at KARMa.. after we would fuel up at 5th street Cafe in downtown frisco. Then do some shopping off Main Street downtown.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I would not be here if it wasn’t for very special supporters in my life.
Over 75 people bought memberships and I wasn’t even open yet. That is how much they believed in me. That feels pretty dang good.
Every person that has been in my classes is a gift to me. They motivate and inspire me daily.
My husband is definitely the one that told me I HAD to do it. He was a huge supporter by giving me confidence that I could build this from scratch. I am forever grateful for him seeing me in a light I didn’t know I had.
My sister has been a blessing during the process. She’s always my biggest fan and my constant.
My friends too many to name. But I am blessed to be surrounded by people that truly root for me to win.
The owner of the gyms I have worked at in the past. They are all a part of my journey. Helping me to see the grit you have to have. I am forever grateful for every gym I have walked into.
