We had the good fortune of connecting with Jennifer Wax and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Jennifer, what habits do you feel helped you succeed?
Oh I love this! I love taking notes. I was one of those weird kids in school that color coded their notes. Like black was what the given points, red were questions, and blue was like notes that helped support the topic and question. Everything was organized and divided up. I felt like it was the only way I could learn. Come time for test or assignments, I knew exactly where to go, what I needed and it didn’t take me forever. Once I got older, I carried on the same habit to college and then when I started working. Now I color code my editing process, red is bad, green is good, and yellow is a maybe. With out this, I don’t think I would be able to take on as many weddings as I do and be able to handle the workflow.
Please tell us more about your work. We’d love to hear what sets you apart from others, what you are most proud of or excited about.
I am a natural light photographer. I love using the sun to light up my work. I do favor the lighter side when editing, but details are my strong point. Most of my clients are attracted to my work for my sense of details. I feel like there is a reason you picked the lace for your wedding dress, so I want to make sure that I don’t brighten the image to much so that those details are still shown.
Any great local spots you’d like to shoutout?
Oh my, so one of my favorite dessert spots right now is the Cake Bar in Dallas. I swear they have every flavor you can think of. On date nights my husband and I will each pick a flavor and then binge out while watching late night movies. My favorite is their “wedding” cake flavor. It is a must visit place when you are in the area.
Tell us about a book you’ve read and why you like it / what impact it had on you.
Lately I have been reading Building A Story Brand. It’s an amazing book that helped me established the brand I wanted to showcase for my clients. I couldn’t get into words what I wanted, I knew it in my head, but when I tried to put it down on paper, it just didn’t come out right. So a fellow photographer suggested that I read this book….IT CHANGED EVERYTHING! I was able to map out my whole business and the clients I want to reach, and I loved every minute of it. It’s a must read for all businesses in my opinion.
