Meet Jennifer McCauley | Doctor of Physical Therapy & Board Certified Orthopedic Clinical Specialist

We had the good fortune of connecting with Jennifer McCauley and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Jennifer, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
I always knew that I wanted to start my own business. The vision of Inspire Physical Therapy and Wellness has been with me for 15 years and is one of the reasons I pursued my doctoral degree in physical therapy. I wanted to provide a place for healing that was patient-centered, treated the whole person, and utilized movement as medicine. I spent the first 10 years of my career working in California specializing in movement science, pilates-based physical therapy, and orthopedic and pelvic health rehabilitation. Although I loved California, I knew it wasn’t the place I wanted to start my practice nor raise my family. I am originally from Texas and when the opportunity came to go back, my husband and I seized the opportunity. When I relocated to Texas four years ago, I noticed that many of the PT practices in the area were run as “patient mills”. They treated 3-4 patients an hour and only provided minimal time with the physical therapist. These therapists were also limited in what they could do as they worked under the insurance model. Working under the insurance model means that if you come in for a neck problem your therapist can only treat the neck to receive payment from the insurance company. The problem is that injuries often don’t follow these patterns. Sometimes a neck injury relates back to an old hip injury which throws off the alignment of the spine. The whole body must be addressed to get you out of pain. At Inspire Physical Therapy and Wellness, we work outside of the insurance model. We work for the patient! Working outside the insurance model allows us to get results quickly and more efficiently. We pride ourselves on being “body detectives” who get to the root cause of your aches and pains. We provide hour long sessions of one-on-one care with a physical therapist centered on quality manual therapy, neuromuscular re-education, and functional training so that you can get back to doing the things you love. At Inspire Physical Therapy and Wellness we want you to “Live an Inspired LIFE, and be an Inspired YOU!”
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I think the thing that truly sets me apart begins with my background as a pilates teacher prior to becoming a physical therapist. Pilates is a therapeutic exercise modality, holistic in nature, which aligns and balances the spine. Pilates teaches corrective movement using a variety of equipment through neuromuscular reeducation. Neuromuscular reeducation is a technique to restore normal movement patterns by retraining how the brain communicates to the muscles. I have since pursued other neuromuscular reeducation tools outside of pilates including Dynamic Neuromuscular Stabilization (DNS), Neurokinetic therapy (NKT), and Redcord and have incorporated these into the practice. These integrative approaches in both assessment and treatment help get to the root cause of a person’s aches and pains and helps us to get results quicker and more efficiently. As far as getting to where I am at today as a private practice owner, living my dream, it comes down to hard work, determination, and faith. You have to be all in, 110%. I truly love what I do for a living and feel blessed to live my calling. I am a passionate learner who wants to know everything I can about the human body. Partly because I want to help people and also because I just love learning how the body works. Because of this I have been able to attract a talented team that shares the same passion for the field. We are truly creating something unique in the area. We are creating a place where people can get the results they need so they can live an “Inspired Life”.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
If someone were to come to the area I would recommend that they come during the holidays. My city of Grapevine is the self proclaimed “Christmas Capital of Texas”, and boy, do they do an AMAZING job! From the creation of “Whoville” in downtown Grapevine, to the Festival of Light Parade, to having our own Polar Express Train, Grapevine is a truly magical place during the holidays. Grapevine also has six major wineries on main street and a variety of uniques stores and shops. Our newest addition of the Hotel Vin in downtown Grapevine brings a modern and stylish touch with a gorgeous rooftop bar, and a fantastic signature restaurant called Bacchus Kitchen and Bar. Attached to the Hotel Vin, the new Harvest Hall is a European-Style Food Hall with musical entertainment and seven different restaurants from Texas chefs with a global flavors. There is something for everyone here!
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I would love to give a huge shout out to my good friend and business partner Julie Henderson. Julie and I met soon after I arrived to Texas and we quickly hit it off. Her background in business development helped transform my vision of Inspire Physical Therapy and Wellness into the thriving business it has become today. I would also like to recognize my husband for his unwavering support during this time. Starting a business is no easy task. It requires many hours of sweat labor, both in patient care and in building and managing the business. My husband not only supports me but he is my biggest fan. He believes in me even when I may have doubted myself. What more, he has taken on more responsibilities at home and with our kids. He is the ultimate team player and I am beyond grateful for his unconditional love and support.
