Meet Jennifer Massoud | Certified Makeup Artist & Beauty Therapist

We had the good fortune of connecting with Jennifer Massoud and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Jennifer, what matters most to you?
Great question! Integrity is the value that matters most to me. Integrity means you are whole in your words, principles, and actions – to be complete from start to finish in all of these domains. Integrity doesn’t mean you are perfect rather it acknowledges your humanity and allows for the truth to matter even when you are humbled by your own breakdown in conduct. As Captain Picard says on Star Trek TNG, “There can be no justice so long as laws are absolute. Even life itself is an exercise in exceptions.” Social media changed the game for most career paths but especially in the beauty industry. The current narrative claims consequence can be avoided or matters not. Look at all the “flawless” images in media, “influencers” and advertising designed to sucker punch you into purchasing based off the advert. Part of my ethos is to teach my clients to claim their authentic beauty and to stop comparing themselves to all the fake we see in today’s world. Integrity to me is the new black. Winning at all costs is not sustainable nor should it be a goal. I see many breaches of ethics in the beauty industry and call it the Bullshit of Beauty on my channel. I watch other artists undercut their rates and that has created a domino effect of bargain basement pricing for services which greatly affects one’s ability to sustain income. If you don’t respect your business no one else will either. Our current culture is not something to aspire to be, in my opinion. I end each of my videos with “be you, be true, and love what you do” because it is a matter of integrity to yourself. Just like any human, I am subject to my own frailty and have and currently make mistakes but part of being whole within yourself requires acknowledging that frailty. We are human and not humiliated. Doing the right thing when no one is looking matters, whether it gets a “like” or not.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I am not your average bear, shall we say? The journey to find peace through God in order to help others find peace has played an integral role in who I am. What sets me apart is a determination to find myself, be myself, and not taking “no” for an answer. When you transform your hurt you stop transferring it. The desire to forgive and move forward is stronger than staying angry and has helped me develop into who I am. Healing has allowed me to use makeup artistry as a ministry for myself and others. I am not always the popular choice because I don’t play well with social media norms of beauty rather I am a boutique offering for women who want wholeness versus flawless. I specialize in weddings, special events, and beauty therapy lessons. I also have professional programs for women called Boardroom Beauty and Courtroom Appeal. How you look matters in the workplace and is specific to your career. Knowing who you are is the greatest weapon of influence to change the world and the breakdowns you see. My accomplishments include being featured in multiple publications as well as local and national television appearances. I started Beauty Therapy with JenX on YouTube this year where I produce a tip of the week to help women find all the pieces of their soul they have given away to others. My career path has not been easy because the business world doesn’t always care about what’s right. When you do your work you stop attracting people that hurt you and you have little tolerance for incompetence in the marketplace. The path to inner peace has often changed my friendships and jobs. Getting healthy isn’t always popular because many folks only “love” you for your personality and what you can offer versus who you are in God’s essence. I have struggled with fear of being alone as I worked on becoming. We all have the choice to choose differently but not all of us want to be well and that’s alright too! I ask my viewers, are you a sheep or a shepherd? I have a multifaceted background of careers that include being a musician, a retired pastry chef, a bookkeeper, travel agent, and more. I love learning! All of these facets have helped me to create JenXBeauty. I believe in authenticity and when you know who you are you are never subject to what people think you are. The feedback I receive from clients say I bring out the best in people and am easy to open up to. I am an old soul and cherish real interaction between people. I am confident and self-motivated through much hard work on my inner world. I am everything nice with a little Lebanese spice.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Dallas is a city on the move and has undergone massive change since I was born here! Dallas has options for everyone both in and outside the city limits. As a retired pastry chef, I live for eating good food! I would make sure we visited my old stomping ground of La Duni and a visit to Northpark Mall where I worked at Nordstrom and Neiman Marcus. I also enjoy eating my Lebanese roots at Hedary’s in Allen where George (the owner) grows most of the food that will grace your plate. As a musician there is nothing better than listening to the Dallas Symphony Orchestra at The Meyerson or enjoying a walk through the Dallas Museum of Art for some contemplation or jazz night. For a fancier evening, I love the jazz trios at The Mansion on Turtle Creek. I love a good walk on White Rock Lake and then grab dessert at Andy’s Frozen Custard. For some stress relief and fun, you can catch me at Elm Fork Ranch shooting trap or skeet with my Winchester. If I have time, I also enjoy relaxing at King Spa which offers both hot and cold saunas and some of the best dumplings in Dallas! Dallas has tons of towns within driving distance to enjoy antiques and fried pies or even a road trip to Collin Street Bakery for some Cherry Ice Box cookies. Can you tell I love food?

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Absolutely! I want to acknowledge my wise and loving mother, Patricia Massoud. She has helped me through the “ruffest” times of my life and inspires me to seek faith, grace, and maturity so that I may be of service to others. In addition to mom, I would not be me without my spiritual godmother, Suzanne Stabile. Suzanne is my Enneagram teacher and co-author of “The Road Back to You.” Enneagram has taught me to break the cycle of trauma within my family and to see others through the eyes of God versus personality. I want to thank my business mentor and teacher, Kirkland Tibbels. Kirkland is the co-founder of Influence Ecology and taught me transactional competence in the business world. The Fundamentals of Transaction course changed my life in ways I never knew I would need or have to utilize because life can surprise you and there is a difference in interacting versus transacting for your aims. Finally, I thank my therapist, my spiritual director, and God. All three of which help me navigate life through the eyes of faith versus fear.
