We had the good fortune of connecting with Jennifer Buck and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Jennifer, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
Standing out by being different. When we decided to open Luminous Glow Med Spa we decided that we wanted to be the light in someone’s day hence the word Luminous, and we wanted to help people glow but also show them our glow. We wanted to give a uniquely amazing experience to each client that walks in our doors. From the time they schedule until the time they leave we want them to know the entire experience is about them. As a society we struggle to take time for ourselves, and yet we are so hard on ourselves. With the invention of the internet and social media filters we have come to think everyone around us looks perfect. Which makes self confidence a struggle in the world we live in. We want to help women and men alike achieve their confidence and glow. We help by listening to each clients concerns then educating them with the options we offer to help them achieve their goals. We teach them how to use the skin care we recommend we are honest about the results and how many treatments it may take to achieve the results. Sometimes its just adding a little lip fluff to thin lips. Often times its several treatments to help with texture of the skin, pore size and fine lines. However some of the most satisfiying results are those who come to me after Mohs surgery or severe acne scars and melasma, for those patients its often life changing results. This is my why. I love to help clients from all walks of life achieve their self confidence. Because we see the beauty that already exists and we just take and add a little glow. We love what we do and from start to finish we are with our clients every step of the way that’s why we started Luminous Glow our clients are not just a number but part of our hearts and why we do everything we do.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
My love of the medical profession started when I was young. I graduated high school with an MA certification. I went on to become a sonographer, I worked many years in a hospital setting then finally settled on high risk OB. After many years of ultrasound I was given the opportunity to be a part of an OB practice that had a medical spa. I eventually became the practice manager and learned all the aspects of the med spa. I loved everything about it. I was given another opportunity to run a small med spa, that eventually grew in to a large med spa. I had the desire to have a small yet elite medical spa that changes lives! One person at a time. Opening a business from the ground up has been the most humbling experience of my life! There are so many obstacles that business owners face. I have found that sheer grit and determination is the only way a small business can succeed. When a door closes you look for the french doors to open instead! Positivity is how I have overcome my challenges, don’t get me wrong I’d sit down have a moment. Get back up and say how am I going to do this? I pray a ton. God has always taken care of our family and led the way. My brand is all about helping men and women love the glowing skin they are in. Its about educating our clients and taking the best care of our clients!
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I love some girl time! I think we would start by having a cozy dinner at Rustico Wood Fired Grill in Flower Mound, with brussel sprouts as my main course! The next morning we would have Sunday brunch at Jeter Meat Market, followed by a walk through Painted Tree in Highland Village to shop local vendors. We would then drive through lakeside and have an early dinner at Clink wine bar, and order whatever the owner recommends that evening! I would take her for a stroll down to the pier in lakeside. The following day would take a short drive to Dallas and take her to the JFK museum then have a nice dinner at Reunion Tower so she can enjoy the view of our beautiful city. In the middle of our wonderful visit we would have a day of relaxation, sleeping in and going to Luminous Glow Med Spa for a rejuvinating SaltFacial, followed by a pedicure and an evening on the patio grilling and drinking a glass of wine while watching the sunset on my property. We would spent two days touring Ft. Worth one day may be spent taking a picnic and going to the botanical gardens, and the next day at the Ft. Worth stockyards shopping then ending the day at Joe T Garcias for dinner and margaritas. The DFW area has so much too offer. But we enjoy our little piece of heaven in the suburbs’ between Dallas and Ft. Worth.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
There are so many people along the way who have mentored me and supported my dreams along the way! My biggest fans and the people I have learned the most from about business are my parents. They own several companies and I have watched and listened carefully over the years learning so much about how to run a small business. My husband is my biggest cheerleader, he tells me every single day how proud he is of me. Hayley has been by my side every day in every way helping me grow and helping the business thrive! Kelly with Murray Media has always been there to help me with design ideas and our marketing strategy. There are too many people to mention! A book I recently read is The Go Giver by Bob Burg and John David Mann. I was encouraged by a friend and mentor Heather Shimala to read this and I love all the little lessons it teaches.
