We had the good fortune of connecting with Jennifer Barkley and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Jennifer, what role has risk played in your life or career?
When Linn & Laurel Jewelry was established in 2014 it was my 5th business venture. Sometime things don’t work out as planned and Sometimes you get it right. Success is not always a straight line to the top. The risk involved is huge. I have learned to pray a lot about the decisions I make and ask God to be involved and guide me. When I quit my last job and set out to start my second Jewelry line it was a leap. Putting all my trust in God and my abilities and talents. Since then I have seen my work evolve every year. Quality, Design & Talent are the keys that drive me to the next level.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
Linn & Laurel are my Girls middle names. A year or so before my business venture I rolled the name around in my head. Wondering what was next for me. I actually had thought of several other ventures before I saw things come together for the Jewelry line. My family and I were in a financial pinch and I had previously been working 3 jobs to keep us afloat. I had made several pieces of jewelry for myself and thought I would drive into the city to see if I might be able to sell to some to stores there. That evening I drove home with money in my pocket that paid all my bills and bought groceries. My ambition grew from there. I buckled down and worked and pushed the line. While I saw God open doors for me that no one could close. Linn & Laurel design comes from deep within my soul. It is a very elegant but also has a rustic flare. My childhood was filled with opportunities to learn about the land and wildlife. My family farmed, ranched, and operated a very successful dirt construction company. I know more about the dirt,rock,water and vegetation in the county than most. My family would also travel to the city and spend a week at church events. This gave me an opportunity to view the city lights and wear my favorite dresses. So many of my designs are a reflection of my childhood and the feeling that I relate to. When I open my studio door to begin my work day. I’m flooded with emotions and excitement 6 year into the business. It is the most thrilling thing to me to see all of the gorgeous stones & leather I work with. Each day is a new opportunity to birth a new design or to create a new color combination in an existing design. My work is ever changing and keeps my interest in becoming all that God has created me to be. I’m really just at play in my own world and it is so fulfilling!

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
Throughout my life I have had the the opportunity to put my God given talents to work. With each business venture I have experience a different talent was used. Never have I experienced using all of my talents at once. For one particular job might require one talent another would require a totally different one. With Linn & Laurel I operate with three. I lean solely on God to direct me to each new stage on the platform. He is my source of inspiration.
