We had the good fortune of connecting with Jenni Johnson and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Jenni, how do you define success?
I don’t anymore. As much as I’d like to define success as a term of achievement, I just really do not believe in it. The further I go the more I see that success is built on all circumstances. Winning and losing is conceptual. To me its all about coming to terms that every experience and project has opportunities for learning and growth.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I believe in authenticity and advocate for it. Collaboration in all aspects of story-telling is imperative to me and always has been. I hope to continue directing and writing stories that have the ability to both entertain and push for change in thought. I love to laugh. I love to cry, probably more than the normal person. But more than anything, I love when a good piece of art makes me think. I think that’s why I began all of this in the first place. Back when I was a kid at least. I started capturing film and video professionally back in 2015. Since then, I have faced the typical vocational, relational, fiscal and creative challenges as most in the film industry. But I think overcoming is a process. Every day I’m grateful to be alive and a part this moment in time for women, marginalized people and POC. I’m living in a renaissance and am trying to be acutely aware of that. I am honored to watch and be a part of movements such as Me Too, BLM and Times Up create real segues for change within the present and future. I am choosing to be a vessel for truth, hope and equality in visual story telling. For now I’m gonna continue making things with my hands and heart with other’s who feel the same.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Oh heck yes. Well, I’m probably bias but I believe North/East Dallas has some of the best coffee in DFW. So for starters, oat milk cortados from LDU. My two favorite spots in the city are probably either The Angelika or White Rock Lake. Black Swan Yoga is also the best and my favorite place to sweat these days. Little Katana for dinner, always. Get a salmon skin and ghost rider.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I have boundless gratitude for the support & encouragement of my dear friend and creative confidant Nick Glover. I hope everyone can find someone who holds them accountable to their dreams and dedication in every season the way he has held me to mine.
