We had the good fortune of connecting with Jenna Boehm and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Jenna, why did you pursue a creative career?
I have always enjoyed the more adventurous part of life, whether that be traveling or coming up with new ideas. Growing up I did not really have an idea for my career path, but I always had photography. I went to college got my degree, and started a job, but it was never truly it for me. I wanted something that I could grow with and expand my knowledge. That is why I chose photography. Every day is new, new people, new places, new ideas….just new! I enjoy that part of it, it makes me happy.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
Whew, I can honestly say it was not easy getting where I am, and I am still growing. I did not start out just doing photography, so my time was split between this and the other jobs I had. Like most photographers starting out, it takes a leap of faith to go full-time, which I still struggle with sometimes. I had to learn to balance life and work and make sure to make time for myself and my family. I always try to leave at least one week a month open for family events, travel, or date night. My biggest challenge would have to be comparison, which is so common in this industry. It has taken a long time for me to be confident in my work and know what my worth is. Do not get me wrong there are some days that get hard but I have found a great group of fellow photographers, the best clients, and family that continue to support me. I believe that my heart for my clients and attention to detail sets me apart from others. I want my client’s experience to be one of a kind and make them feel super confident.
I have the most weddings this year I have ever booked which is a huge goal of mine. I also worked endless hours putting together some incredible styled shoots that I am so excited to share with everyone. I am passionate about styled shoots and working with creative vendors in the wedding industry. It is so much fun creating some amazing images with such talented people. I love getting to meet new people wanting to collaborate on ideas.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
My friends and I love to travel and do girls’ trips all the time. We love visiting deep ellum for some great hang-out spots, the aquarium is a lot of fun as well. We enjoy visiting the shops at the Stockyards, as well as enjoying a baseball game at Globe Life Stadium.
We are big foodies and are always looking for some good eats. Lazy Dog, Kenny’s Italian, Mi Cocina, and Postino. A personal favorite growing up was Beth Marie’s Old Fashioned Ice Cream.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
My best friend Alexis Thompson. She has been there since day one supporting the growth of my business. We live about three hours away from each other but she never fails to find clients for me and she continues to support me in that way. Alexis is a real estate broker so we frequently get to work together on branding projects or social media ideas. She is really one of the best people in the business and one of the best people to have in your corner. I am truly blessed to have all her love and support as we both continue to grow our businesses.
