We had the good fortune of connecting with Jeni Craver and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Jeni, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
After 23 years behind the chair, I had grown deep roots in the beauty industry. I’d spent 8 of those years working at a corporate salon, which gave me structure, consistency, and a steady flow of clients. But when that company unexpectedly filed for bankruptcy, I was forced out of my comfort zone. It was scary—but it was also the push I didn’t know I needed.
In 2019, I made the leap into suite rental and started working for myself. It was a bold move, but it felt right. I already had the experience, the loyal clientele, and the passion—it was just time to take control of my future. Once I got over the initial fear, I realized I could finally build a business that reflected me: personal, high-quality, and flexible enough for my life as a single mom.
Along the way, I also started a side hustle as a travel agent. Honestly, it began as a way to bring in extra income, but it grew naturally because my salon clients were always asking for travel tips. I’ve traveled to 49 out of 50 U.S. states—Hawaii is the only one left!—so planning amazing domestic trips became second nature. I’d recommend places based on real experiences, not just online reviews. Whether it was a cozy mountain getaway or the best-kept-secret beach town, I had a story to share and tips to give.
As my travel business grew, so did the types of trips I was planning. I now specialize in luxury travel and bucket list experiences—everything from European river cruises and African safaris to once-in-a-lifetime tropical escapes. My clients trust me to create elevated, seamless journeys that match their dreams and lifestyles.
What’s really beautiful is how both of my businesses overlap. As a hairstylist, I know the details of my clients’ lives—their anniversaries, birthdays, family dynamics, and stress levels. That makes me uniquely positioned to plan travel that’s truly personalized. Whether they need a relaxing retreat, a family adventure, or a luxury celebration, I can tailor the perfect escape because I already know what they need before they ask.
Starting my own business wasn’t just about becoming my own boss. It was about creating a life where my skills, passions, and personal connections could thrive—and where I could support my family while doing what I love.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
Hair was never my first choice of career — I actually just happened into it. But once I got started, I fell in love with the craft and never looked back. I worked hard, pushed myself to keep learning, and along the way discovered not only the tricks of the trade but even created a few of my own.
What sets me apart is more than just technique — it’s the passion I have for transformation. For me, hair isn’t just about style; it’s about confidence, self-expression, and connection. I love seeing someone light up when they realize how good they feel in their own skin after a fresh style.
My brand is built on creativity, innovation, and care. It represents perseverance, growth, and the idea that sometimes the best paths in life are the ones we never planned. I want people to know that when they come to me, they’re not just getting their hair done — they’re experiencing artistry, dedication, and a story of turning unexpected beginnings into a lifelong passion.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
If a friend were visiting Dallas-Fort Worth, I’d make sure they experienced the area’s most iconic and exciting spots. We’d explore vibrant neighborhoods like Deep Ellum for street art, live music, and stroll through the Bishop Arts District for its unique shops and dining. In Dallas, we’d visit the Perot Museum, the Dallas Arboretum, or the Dallas World Aquarium. For a true Texas experience, we’d spend time in the Fort Worth Stockyards and watch the cattle drive, grab a margarita at Joe T. Garcia’s, and dance at Billy Bob’s Texas. We’d also hit major attractions like Reunion Tower, Klyde Warren Park, and Legacy Hall, making sure to mix culture, food, and fun every step of the way.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
There’s no way I could be where I am today without the incredible support system that’s surrounded me throughout my journey. First and foremost, I have to shout out my family. Their unconditional love and support—especially as a single mom trying to juggle it all—has been the foundation that’s held me up during the highs and the lows. They’ve been there through every leap of faith and every late night.
I also have to give major credit to my hair bestie—she knows exactly who she is. She’s been my sounding board, my hype woman, and the one who’s never been afraid to give me a little push when I needed it most. She saw my potential even when I was doubting myself, and I’ll always be grateful for her encouragement and tough love.
My small circle of close friends—my village—deserve so much recognition. They’ve lifted me up in moments when I couldn’t lift myself. Whether it was a kind word, a shared laugh, or simply showing up, they’ve always been there, reminding me that I’m never alone in this.
And last, but absolutely not least, my incredible clients. They have stuck with me through career changes, life changes, and everything in between. They entrust me not just with their hair, but with their stories, their secrets, their celebrations, and their heartbreaks. The relationships I have with my clients are deep and meaningful—we’ve grown together, cried together, and cheered each other on through all of life’s milestones. I genuinely couldn’t do what I do without them.
So this shoutout goes to my people—my family, my tribe, my hair bestie, and my loyal clients. You’ve all played a part in this journey, and I’m so thankful for every one of you.
