Meet Jeff Mitchell: Residential Real Estate Entrepreneur + Music Events Promoter

We had the good fortune of connecting with Jeff Mitchell and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Jeff, what is the most important factor behind your success?
The most important factor behind my success is, I’m passionate and I truly love what I do. Whether it’s helping people buy and sell cool modern homes in Dallas, helping my Agents at Modern Living Real Estate be successful, throwing Decks In the Park music events, or giving back to a charity that’s meaningful to me, they are all fun and rewarding, so it doesn’t feel like work. When your work feels like a “get to” (verses a have to), it just doesn’t feel like work anymore. As a result, I have found that you end up putting so much more of yourself into that work (i.e. commitment, time, creativity, innovation, personality). and as a result, the outcomes are generally much more fruitful and fun for everyone.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
I have always been an entrepreneur at heart. It started with DJing, promoting music events, and operating record labels, to owning and operating multiple real estate companies over the past 16 years. I have had many successes, and a lot of learning opportunities in both of the industries, but I always persevered, kept growing, learning, and pivoting. As Thomas Edison said, “I have not failed. I have found 10,000 ways that don’t work.”. Attitude is everything! It makes a big difference if you have fun with what you do, and if your work is meaningful to you. Having good people around you is critical. This includes people who have compensating skills, people who challenge you, people you can communicate with, and people who will add value and hold you accountable. Our company, Modern Living Real Estate, is a residential real estate company, focused on serving clients who want to buy and sell modern and contemporary homes. This is something we “love” to do, as a result, that shows up in the quality of work we provide our clients. Its hard to be everything to everybody, so focusing on your passions, and niche marketing is key.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
(In normal times) My wife and I love food, wine/drinks art, and the outdoors. We would probably start on Lower Greenville at HG Supply rooftop for sunset and drinks, sidewalk shop in the afternoon at Bishop Arts, with lunch at Paradiso, and then head over to Revelers Hall for a festive NOLA music vibe. We would grab a coffee at Window Seat on Lower Greenville, and go for a walk around White Rock Lake or the Arboretum. We love taking people to the Ochre Theatre in Fair Park, which is a small Avant Garde theatre, always on point! During the pandemic, we hit some of our favorite outdoor patios, like HG, Paradiso, Dots Hop House, Halcyon, Waterproof at Statler, Chelsea’s Corner and Desert Racer. If they love sneakers as much as I do, I would take them to Sneaker Politics in Deep Ellum or The Laboratory on Lower Greenville.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
Foundationally, the guidance, support, and care from my Mom, Rhonda, and my Grandmother, Mattie, were paramount, They taught me to persevere, believe in myself, think positively, have integrity. and be a caring and compassionate person. As a lifelong student of personal development work, leadership training, and coaching, I have been fortunate enough to have been exposed to a lot of great transformational programs and coaches. Millennium 3 Education, led by Bernie Nathan and other great coaches like Michael Strasner (who has some great books out), truly altered the course of my life in a profound way. So many lessons, from deeply understanding responsibility and accountability in my life, elevating my perceptions on life, being vulnerable, and expand what I thought was possible. The first book that really led me on this path of personal transformation was called “Dare to Win”, by Mark Victor Hanson. Since then, there have been many others, but love Tony Robbins, Wayne Diar, and Lao Tzu are a few I always come back to, Last but certainly not least, my wife, Katie, and my daughter, Zuri are to thank. They love and support me so much, and allow me the freedom to pursue the things I love and enjoy. Katie is my number one cheerleader, and the amazing yin to my yang in our partnership with our Real Estate company and in life in general!
