We had the good fortune of connecting with Jeff Jones Jr and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Jeff, why did you decide to pursue a creative path?
Well to be honest, I just love music! The creating side really started in 2020 when COVID began. I would always make beats here and there but never thought about making actual songs, and since I was at home with nothing but time, I thought why not try it. Here I am now two years later still going and growing!
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I go by the Artist/Stage name of Uncle Jeff and I produce Neo soul/ RnB music. When I was in college at SFA, people always said that I had an old soul and started calling me “Uncle Jeff” so I stuck with it.
What sets me apart from other people in my opinion is that I don’t have the burning desire to have all of the glamour and star lights. I genuinely just want people to enjoy my music and vibe out.
I would say that I got to where I am today with trial and error. It was not easy and it still isn’t easy but it’s easier. The good thing is that I understand the fact that it will not be an overnight success and that’s actually what I look forward to the most. The Process.
The lessons that I’ve learned are that my music is not for everyone. Everybody won’t like the music that I make but there are some that will and that’s what I’ve started to focus more on. Most of all, I love my music so I’ll never lose because at the end of the day, I’m doing this music thing for me.
I want everyone to know that I’m just a country boy from Crockett Tx trying to vibe out with the world. If you like feel good music then my music is for you. You can check out my website www.officialunclejeff.com and follow me on Instagram @officialunclejeff.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
If my friends were in town for a week, we’d probably go to Sidecar social on a Monday to catch a football game and a couple of drinks. Tuesday we’d probably go somewhere and find the best tacos and tequila. Wednesday we’d probably go to The Free Man Cajun Cafe and listen to my guy Jeremy Jackson and Kope Band from 7-10. Thursday we’d probably go somewhere else and find a football game or something then probably hit The Free Man again to listen to The Found Band. Friday we’d hit French Quarter Bistro in Forney and eat some GREAT food and vibe out for karaoke night then go listen to the band at Sandaga after that. For Saturday, whatever happens happens, and on Sunday we at church and they’ll probably be heading out. I really chill most of the time so I don’t do too much, clearly.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
The first person I’d like to give a shout out to is Jesus Christ because without him and his guidance none of this would be possible. I’d also like to thank my parents, Jeffrey Jones Sr. And Berta Brown, and my aunt Anita Jones who are all now resting in Heaven. They’ve instilled music and structure into me as a young kid and without them I wouldn’t be touching an instrument today. I’d also like to thank my big brother Willie Love who was the first person I have ever seen make a beat and is still my role model. I’d like to thank my brothers Nick and Chris Jones because they were with me on the daily from diapers til now always supporting and pushing me to be the best musician/producer I could be. I’d like to thank all of the creatives that I’ve come in contact with here in the Dallas area because they truly embraced me and showed genuine love to me out here. Last but certainly not least, I’d like to thank my lovely, beautiful and great wife, Ciara Jones, owner of Leone Events LLC, for being my biggest cheerleader and for being the best mother to our smart and handsome son, Jeffrey “Trip” Jones. They are two of the biggest reasons I want to succeed in everything that I do. Again I say thank you to all of you and I know I’ve missed a few but thank y’all too. Shout out to my hometown of CROCKETT TEXAS (936).
