Meet Jayhlin Michele | Writer and Ceo of Glossin Boutique

We had the good fortune of connecting with Jayhlin Michele and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Jayhlin, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
All of my life I’ve known that no matter what I do in this world, I want it to impact others. Make a difference even if it may be a small difference. Knowing that passion in my heart along with the realities of the world and needing to pay for things and expenses, I thought why not make money while doing what I love. I am a writer/ poet and I just released my first poetry book which took a lot mentally for me to prepare for, but it’s all mind over matter and putting faith in myself and my work. The same thing for my boutique that I started, it was all mind over matter and putting positivity in myself to build confidence in what I’m releasing.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I am a creative person so my art has truly expanded within this year. I am a CEO of an online self-care and beauty boutique, Glossin’, where I push the message of the importance of self-love and mindfulness through self-care and beauty. I am also a writer/poet and I recently just released my first book, Unraveled. It is a poetry/art collection, all written by me, but I brought in a couple of close people to take care of the art section. Passion is what drives my work, I have a passion to help others, to inspire, and in turn, I inspire even myself. Everything I do comes from my heart to someone else’s and to me that is the most beautiful part about the things I release. I am young and still growing into more things I’m finding interest in, but I’m really excited to push my book more and get more people to read it. I’d say that is something I am so proud of, it’s like my baby in a way. Getting it out there was a great release, and it felt so good. I have so much I’m looking forward to releasing in the future, I’m currently working on a film to release as well, so lots of things I’m looking forward to for sure. I’d have to say that I am so proud of where I am, but I am nowhere near where I want to be. However, the people around you, the connections, the environments that I’ve surrounded myself in have allowed me to be where I am now. I’ve had the blessing of meeting so many creative people who have inspired me, and connections have come along with that. This journey of mine in creating my business and releasing my book has definitely been a difficult process, both mentally and physically. I was in a constant state of doubt in how well my projects would turn out as well as finances. I started to really pray, and meditate, and write down all of my worries. Addressing those difficulties really helped me understand my process and my doubts and overcome them. As a creative not fully believing in your product can overcome you, but eventually telling yourself the right things and tending to yourself definitely helps. I’ve learned that no matter what stage you are in your life, you can put your mind into your passions and make these things you never thought could happen, come to fruition. When it comes to being a writer or a small business owner, it can be scary to get into because of the finances. The uncertainty of financial stability or making your money you put into it can turn a lot of people away from a truly rewarding experience. These doubts these questions will only hold you back from what you can truly accomplish. At the end of the day, when it comes to our passions, we are our worst enemy it takes befriending ourselves to truly believe in what we do.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I am still pretty new when it comes to actually get out of the house and finding spots, ha, but the places I would have to take my friend is definitely the art museum. Most of my friends and I really love art in many different forms, so I think we’d enjoy that. Also, I love good food that feels good to eat so I would have to take her to this Ethiopian spot, I cannot think of the name. When I eat the food it just feels so right! We’d definitely have to visit discovery green and just chill and talk. For me and my friends as long as we are together and doing what we all enjoy, we can get inspired and have fun at the same time.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I want to dedicate this to my family and the wonderful people in my life that keep me grounded and constantly uplift me. Since I was young my family knew my passions even before I did, and when I realized them, they have backed me up with support and love and it has just helped me grow so much and helped me to have more faith in what I do and in myself. I am forever thankful for that and owe where I am to them and of course, the creator who gave me these gifts to pass to others.
