We had the good fortune of connecting with Jay Visuals and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Jay, why did you decide to pursue a creative path?
Growing up, I watched my cousin Larry Servin make films through a home-video camera that my family cherishes to this day. These films were just an entryway into his career and is now a professional in the industry. In addition to watching Larry, I watched so many movies that inspired me to make people feel extraordinary through my own medium. There’s something about helping people bring their stories to life that makes me feel fulfilled at the end of the day.
Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Being able to have close relationships with clients is what sets me apart from others in my industry. Having the ability to turn clients into friends is a trait that has made networking easier than most. Although this one aspect has been easier, that doesn’t mean that I don’t face challenges. One challenge I’ve faced was balancing school and my business. I’ve learned that being organized and having a healthy balance between work, school and my personal life makes all the difference. At first I never thought that I would be able to do what I love. Fun Fact: I got my first gig shooting an engagement photoshoot with my iPhone and this is how JayVisuals begun. Now I’m traveling all across Texas for photo and video shoots. It’s truly an invaluable experience meeting and getting to work with people all around Texas.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I would take my friends to Tipsy Oak for brunch to have their Brisket Nachos, then we would go to Deep Ellum to walk around and view art, and towards the end of the day we would have a couple of drinks on 7th street and experience the nightlife.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
Many members of my family have been the biggest supporters in my story. They have been a part of my backbone when I’m down and always cheer me on when I’m up. My cousin Larry Servin offers mentorship since he has professional experience in the film industry. I want to thank my family for supporting me throughout the journey I’ve been on especially in most recent years. Also to my friends and clients for giving me a chance to capture a moment of their lives.
