We had the good fortune of connecting with Jasmine Ruff and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Jasmine, career-wise, where do you want to be in the end?
The end goal for me is to establish a firm that employs multiple event planners, giving free reign of their schedule and income potential. In reality it is more to it than just decorating pretty events. I actually enjoy giving someone an amazing event but it is also about the coming together of friends and family to celebrate with each other. I want to see more and more of that. When I finally step away from my business I am hoping to have brought together more people by curating events and travel experiences that make them feel good and allow them to just enjoy the moment.

That would obviously require me to have a full-staff of dedicated professionals with the same mindset as me. I would also incorporate more workshops giving others tools to provide quality service to their clients and build their own businesses.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
I started out as an event planner just decorating baby showers and birthday parties on the side. I had so much fun doing it and being creative. Eventually I opened my first venue in Cincinnati and continued with event planning and renting the venue. It was perfect for me as an event planner because I was able to get creative and meet more people. I added Travel to my business model after I quit my full time job. Initially, I was just adding it to try it out and incorporate destination events here and there but that took on a life of its own also. Mostly I’ve been planning travel for wedding parties, bachelor/bachelorette trips and girls trips. I’ve now been focusing more on family travels as a lot of single mothers want to travel with their littles but don’t want to do it alone so I have been curating trips for moms with kids to attend and feel comfortable. All in all I curate experiences rather it’s an event or a travel; you will have the luxury of experiencing it with the least amount of stress if I am in control of the details. My clients can rest assured that they are in good hands as I treat every event as it’s my own giving it the same attention and details with the client’s vision in mind.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I would take them out to Grandscape to check out the Andretti go kart place just to have a little fun. We would do a sip and paint at inliving Colour’s paint studio. I want to check out that Beehive lounge their food looks sooo good. I just found this cool little place called fire wheel daiquiri in Garland we went on a Friday and the DJ was pretty cool so I’m definitely going to add that to the list. We spending a day at north park mall, galleria and Allen outlets. My girls like to shop so it’s a must. As far as night life I’ll add The fivee, cafe214, Kiss and the Garden and they should be good to go.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I was raised in a family that was close-knit. We spent a lot of time with our cousins and aunts on my mother’s side. As we grew up we had cousin days, family reunions and impromptu gatherings. However, as time began to pass our family began to drift apart. They actually pissed me off the last time I planned a family reunion so I didn’t talk to them for a few years. This was in the middle of my business building journey so I prided myself on curating events to bring other people together. I began building my own little family through my work. Even with that being said it’s been a few years since we have a had a family reunion and been on the same page as a family. I am hoping we can get back to that eventually but right now I get enjoyment from supporting others as they gather with their family and friends. I had a really supportive mother who helped me with any and everything I needed. She lived closer to my venue so she would come down while I broke down an event sometimes she would help me mop the floors or just sit and talk to me while I closed up. My sister and friends promoted my business like it was their business. It really helps tremendously to have supporters as an entrepreneur because it gets tough and it gets lonely. Trying to figure everything out at once on your own gets overwhelming so having that support to bounce ideas off of get extra marketing and promo help or even just a pay on the back goes a long way.
