Meet Jannet Carrera | Design Build Director, Founder of Jannet Designs

We had the good fortune of connecting with Jannet Carrera and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Jannet, we’d love to hear about how you approach risk and risk-taking.
I don’t see risk as a threat, I see it as test of faith.
It’s never been about flirting with uncertainty or chasing chaos. For me, risk is about trust. Trusting the quiet inner voice that nudges you toward something more. Trusting that the vision God placed on your heart has purpose. That even when the path isn’t fully mapped out, you’re still being guided.
Before Jannet Designs was a company, it was a calling I didn’t yet have language for. I was fully immersed in dance; teaching movement, building Psych of Dance, and pouring into my community. But behind the scenes, I was designing spaces, D.I.Y projects at home, sketching floor plans for fun, and helping my family or friends transform their homes not for profit but because I felt it. I loved it. Eventually, that “side thing” became the thing I couldn’t ignore. So I took the leap.
Starting this business meant walking away from comfort and choosing conviction over convenience. I invested my own money and stepped into a space where vision alone isn’t enough, you need stamina, discernment, and people you trust with everything, That’s what I have in my team. They’re not just talented, they’re my family. We build together, grow together, and hold each other to a higher standard. In a field that often rewards surface over substance, we lead with purpose, loyalty, and designs that are rooted in meaning- not just aesthetics.

What should our readers know about your business?
People don’t just hire us to make things look good; they hire us to make them make sense. Whether it’s a home, a remodel, or a commercial space, we bring clarity to chaos, lead with grounded confidence, and design spaces that are not only functional but deeply personal. Spaces that work, that flow, and that feel like relief.
I started Jannet Designs after seeing how overwhelming the process of building or remodeling could be. People were expected to make huge decisions without clear direction, selecting finishes before layout, juggling contractors without guidance. I didn’t want to just make things look beautiful; I wanted to lead with intention, simplify the chaos, and make every phase feel more aligned.
My work goes beyond interior design. I’m involved from the earliest site walks through layout, selections, and contractor conversations including remodels, new builds, and commercial projects. I direct the full design-build experience and collaborate closely with my team, who are not only highly skilled- but also family.
What sets us apart is how deeply we care about the process, not just the result. We don’t just manage a process, we protect an experience. We’re not here to rush decisions, overwhelm clients with options, or deliver something that looks good but feels off. We slow it down where it matters, ask the right questions, and lead with total presence. Our team works in lockstep rooted in trust, built like family, and aligned from the first meeting to the final walkthrough. That kind of synergy shows up in every detail. Not just in how a space looks but in how it feels to live in it.
Getting here wasn’t easy. This business was built from the ground-up through long hours, faith-fueled conviction, and a deep commitment to serve people better. There were seasons where I had to learn by doing, where I had to lead without a blueprint. I’ve been in rooms where I had to earn my seat and use my voice to protect the vision, not just for myself but for the clients who trusted me. Every challenge sharpened how I lead; with grace, with clarity, and with people I serve always in mind.
What I’m most proud of is that our work doesn’t speak for us, it speaks for the people we serve. Every layout we reimagine, every finish we select, every detail we lead through… it’s rooted in listening, not just styling.
Jannet Designs exists to remove the pressure, protect your vision , and create a space that actually feels like yours. Not just because it’s beautiful but because it makes sense for your life. Your pace. Your peace.
You need someone who can read the moment, adjust with clarity, and deliver something that holds space for how you actually live. That’s where we lead.
At Jannet Designs, we honor process, but we lead with presence. We listen closely, build with strategy, and design with purpose. Because what we’re creating isn’t just a home- it’s a feeling. It’s clarity. It’s a space that finally fits.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
If my best friend were in town for a week, I’d want them to experience DFW the way I live it, intentional, soulful, playful and full of good people, good food, and meaningful wholesome moments. Here’s a week that blends movement, culture, connection and a whole lot of joy:
Day 1: We’d start with pan dulce and coffee at La Casita Bakeshop, stroll through Klyde Warren Park, and end the night with a bold dinner at Town Hearth.
Day 2: Art day—Nasher Sculpture Center and DMA for design and creative energy. Dinner at Sachet and rooftop vibes at Catbird.
Day 3: Dance class taught by me 😉, brunch at Si Tapas, and vintage + local finds in Bishop Arts District.
Day 4: Nature day in Las Colinas—walks with my pup Chubbz by the lake, gondola rides, pedaling the duck boats, ice cream from Creamistry, and sushi with a view.
Day 5: A walk through Highland Park or The Kimbell, then winding down with a glass of wine and a good book at The Wild Detectives, one of my favorite indie bookstores in Dallas.
Day 6: Home is where the heart is. My grandma’s house. A classic carne asada, dancing, games, music, kids running wild and generations all under one roof. No fancy plans, just family, culture and love
Day 7: A spiritual or grounding reset; church, sound healing, or a silent walk. Then a surprise close to the trip, maybe a preview of one of my design projects in progress. or brunch at the RH Dallas.
DFW has a little bit of everything, but what makes it special to me is the rhythm of it all, spaces that invite connection, creativity, and moments that feel like home, even when you’re visiting.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
There’s no version of my story that exists without my family at the center of it. Every risk I’ve taken, every project I’ve built, every quiet doubt I’ve worked through- it’s all been carried by the love, faith and support of my people.
My parents are the blueprint. They’ve shown me what faith in action looks like; how to lead with humility, give without expectation, and keep going even when the path isn’t clear. My siblings are my built-in best friends and motivators, reminding me who I am when things get loud and pushing me to keep growing in every season of my life. We’ve grown through life together. And, my sister-in-law she’s the sister I’ve never had but needed, Her presence, loyalty and love have made our bond something I truly treasure.
My aunts, uncles, cousins…. we’re a big, tight-knit squad. The kind that shows up, loves loud, and prays hard. They’ve celebrated my wins, prayed over my lows and always showing up for each other in ways that matter most.
And at the heart of it all is my grandma, our matriarch, our strength, our guerrera. Her resilience, wisdom, and quiet leadership have shaped generations. She’s the kind of woman who leads by example without ever needing the spotlight. Everything I am carries her legacy.
This shoutout also goes to my chosen family the mentors, friends, and teammates who’ve become part of my inner circle. Their belief in me, especially when I’ve needed it most, has meant everything.
So this shout isn’t just for one person. it’s for the whole village behind me. The family that’s poured into me so I can pour into others. Everything I build reflects the love and strength they’ve given me.
