We had the good fortune of connecting with Jane Sin and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Jane, is there something that you feel is most responsible for your success?
Growth. The hair industry is ever changing and there’s always room for growth. I’m constantly trying to improve my skill set behind the chair while trying to improve my social media presence. Without content, I wouldn’t be where I am today. Without my clients, I wouldn’t have a career. My success also stems from each client that sits in my chair. With every haircut and color, comes meaningful conversations and personal stories. Each interaction fuels my direction as being a hairstylist. I’m building confidence for my clients while hearing their happiest moments or struggles in life. It really is eye-opening and makes you want to be that much more successful not only for yourself but for them as well. Genuine conversations lead to your client’s marketing for you. I truly am blessed for the rapid growth in my career as I was working as a physical therapist assistant for years and also taking UX design courses. Now, my focus is on my hair journey and UX sprinkled in! So thank you to each client who has been by my side. I’ve learned a lot about myself. I’m growing as an individual in many ways and as a hairstylist for this community.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
My journey started with cosmetology school and passing my board exam to working at a salon in Las Colinas. At around that time my dad passed and times we’re really really tough. The salon I was working for also had a high turnover of stylists and didn’t give me the apprenticeship I deserved. While helping my mom with our family business, I got my degree as a physical therapist assistant. I worked through the pandemic and became burnt out like many others. One thing I missed the most was doing hair color so I decided to get back into a salon and not let my fear or trauma get in the way. Fast forward to 2024, I have built a career rapidly through hard work and perseverance. I finally decided my PT career has come to an end so I can focus on my clients while taking UX design courses. Ultimately, I’d like to have a hybrid schedule and work in the tech realm while being creative behind the chair. I love meeting new clients and truly believe in my craft. As for UX? Branding has been of interest but I can’t say I know exactly which direction I’d like to go just yet. I might find myself doing an internship to gain the experience I need.
I love making my clients feel unstoppable once they leave the salon. I focus on a lot of hair coloring that blends seamlessly from the root to ends for a softer grow out or high impact blonding for the client’s who want to be as bright as possible. Each cut and color tailors to the client’s lifestyle, maintenance goals and face shape which makes everyone unique.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I’m a big coffee girl so Hola Cafe in Bishop Arts specifically would be on the itinerary. There’s also so many hidden gems in the Bishop Arts area and everything is walkable. Korean food is a must! I typically like to go to Maht Gaek in Carrollton which has a little bit of everything! They have the best seafood pancake in Dallas. For korean bbq, a stop at Samaeul or Ari are great choices. For a cocktail and nightlife, Lady Love in Bishop Arts which is a vinyl bar or Double D’s in Design district. We could also catch a vibe at Milli, off lower Greenville, under the disco ball.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Where do I even begin? My mom is my rock and is a huge part of my success. My dad passed in 2012 and he’s always been the angel watching over me. My godfather, who always stepped up to the plate. My salon family, they really have cheered me on and provided the guidance I needed. & to my dear friends who have always supported me when times were hard. You guys know who you ya’ll are (:
