We had the good fortune of connecting with Jameca Young and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Jameca, how has your work-life balance changed over time?
When I think of work/ life balance I think of a chart room with file cabinets, Because that’s what your going to need. In the beginning that’s what is was a work/life balance. As time passed I realized I couldn’t make it with a work/life balance. Things had to do a 180, I had to do a life/work balance. I used to think if I worked hard enough life would balance its self out. I soon found out the hard way, with orders over flowing, homework and housework undone, along with missing PTA meetings and field trips, with still trying to make it to a regular job that home life is more important than work. My balance have changed over time for the better with placing home schedule as priority the business is able to run smoothly. I think balance is Key it plays a important factor in running a family and a business it’s just what we choose to balance first that determines the time it takes you to reach the level of success you aim to achieve.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
My art gives confidence It takes confidence to create, to introduce to wear and understand it.
To understand that fashion and style isn’t about fitting in its about standing out.
Everything I make is either custom to the body the mind or the soul.
Every item is made with the customer in mind their likes and their dislikes which I gather at a consultation before offering services or excepting a order.

Where I am today in my business is solely on the relationships I built with my customers and the people they encounter wearing or displaying my work. It wasn’t easy introducing myself to people and actually having the courage to say hey look I made this would you take your hard earned money and buy this from me.
Now it’s like hey I’m meka yes I made this I deserve your hard earned money your won’t be disappointed.

You have to be confident in yourself in order to be confident in your brand.
Yes the customer smells fear.
If your scared to sell they are scared to buy.

I want everyone to know Meka and Simply Fly Expressions are 1 entity.
We are no different.
I want my customers to be comfortable with me because after you spend with my family you are like family ill do everything I could to meet their needs because without them their is not me.
I want people to know that I came up with this laying in my bed as a single mother of 4 trying to figure out how I’m going to afford their clothes and still keep them Fly.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I would bring my friend to the water Garden in fortworth. Out to eat downtown Dallas outside.
To the night club Jammies Rythm
I would also take them to the mall my favorite is Grapevine Mall.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I grew up right Next door to my Aunt my moms baby sister. I watched her as a single mom she almost like super women with a touch of Tinker Bell to me.
I would watch her work, make plants, paint the house, build stuff, and raise kids all while always giggling about something.
It wasn’t until I was older and had kids of my own when I tapped into my ancestors strengths and started working with my hands like so. Having to do a lot of things on my own I never questioned if I could because I saw a women in my family do it so I knew I could.
I would like to give my Aunt Denise Ratliff of Rare Royalty LLC this Credit for showing me what’s possible if you just get up and try.
