We had the good fortune of connecting with Jake Somnath and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Jake, why did you decide to pursue a creative path?
I chose an artistic career for 2 very different reasons. 1.) The first time I got my start on a set. I enjoyed it so much that by the end of the morning (overnight shoot) I was in tears of jubilation, realizing that I had finally found what I want to do with my life I had enjoyed this experience so much. I have never felt such a feeling ever before in my entire life.

2.) As a kid I would remember having sick days when I would go to work with my parents. I remember hating these days so much not because I got to spend time with my parents obviously but because their job to me was so meaningless and boring. I told myself I would never ever do a job like this. I absolutely despise it, and I cannot wait to retire them. It was so bad that when I was sick I would act healthy just to go to school. How often do you hear of a kid doing that lol? I feel that I go so hard and the artistic direction because I want to get so far away from the bore of an every day desk job.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I think the sole thing that sets me apart from others is just my attitude and my willingness to go the marathon. I think anyone could do what I do. I firmly believe that. All they need to arm themselves with is the right attitude and resilience.

I am a hyper positive person so this answer isn’t fitting of that but what brings me the most excitement is the next job and the next one and the one after that. I try not to look back too much otherwise I can get a bit complacent.

Speaking of resiliency, I got to where I am today, despite “No”s multiple times from the biggest agencies in Dallas, Multiple rejections in the casting process, and then some. And to me, I would still say it’s easy because you always have the next one to look forward to so long as you don’t dwell on the previous one.
Eventually, an agency picked me up and that’s how I got my pinky toe in the door.
I know I’m speaking of resiliency and a positive attitude but at first all of that was just an idea for me. Going through this process has taught me to put those ideas or concepts to good use. I am eternally grateful for these lessons.

I want the world to know or more to the point everyone in the world to know that you can accomplish anything that you put your mind to. And you do this by going the distance of the marathon with a smile on your face and the right attitude in your head.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
This question should be so easy for me but I have a difficult time with it because I tend to not go out too much lol. However I’ll give it my best. So I’m going to cheat and assume the fair is going on and tell them to hit that first! Do the whole bit and nothing short of that lord knows my family and I do every year lol. I would then tell them to go to a cowboys game, after a day at six flags!! Next day I would say hit reunion tower, Perot museum, DMA, and a couple of the JFK spots if they’re history buffs like me. As far as food goes I would say they’re in luck. Edoku, Uni, Tandoori Pizza, Medina’s Moroccan, GAP, Serious Pizza, Kalachandjis, and the boiling crab would put them in the right hands. I know I’m a few days short of a week but that’s all I got lol

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
The are a number of people, things, and moments in my life to credit as to why I am where I am today but before all of those things I have to credit and thank God. I truly believe that with out a touch of God in my life I would be nowhere near where I am today and I am so very thankful for that. Coming in at 2. and 3. have to be my dad who has blindly supported me no matter what and gives me the confidence I need to do whatever I have to do. and Life.church. As a Hindu I get a chuckle about this but the irony of the first answer is not lost on me either. Life.church was the first group to give me my first ever job and it is because of them I am so deeply in love with acting. So I cannot fail to credit them on that list.
