We had the good fortune of connecting with Jaime Meyer and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Jaime, we’d love for you to start things off by telling us something about your industry that we and others not in the industry might be unaware of?
One thing about the Pet Grooming Industry that others may not know is that Pet Grooming is a completely unregulated and unlicensed industry. Consumers need to be careful when selecting a groomer/grooming salon as any untrained person could call themselves a groomer. Grooming is more to me than picking up scissors or clippers. Understanding the structure of hair, the way products like shampoos/conditioners will impact different coat types and skin types should be factored into the grooming process. Knowing the anatomy of the pets your working with to prevent injury is important. Understanding behavior signals and safe pet handling is a must. When customers are price shopping… they might assume all salons have the same standards and that is very far from the truth.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
Cutie Pie Pets stands alone from other grooming salons. The passion we have not just for the dogs, but for our team is a big part of why we are who whe are. We take pride in helping young adults find careers in our industry. Providing training, guidance and experience to like minded individuals gives us great purpose and direction. We are considered high volume by many other grooming salons, they assume with the larger numbers we must cut corners. I would argue that. What we have done is harnessed the benefits of process and procedure. We identified what steps of pet grooming require precision and strick sets of rules and then hired people who like precision and sets of rules to follow to do those steps. Then we identified which steps would require an artistic eye, might need to be creative when applying the step to each unique customer, then we hired artistic creative people who we train to do those tasks. The combined power of such a team is big reason we continue to grow and reach new customers.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
My husband and I love a good meal! Whenever I have a lunch meeting we will absolutely be found at either J Macklin’s Grill or their sister store, San Daniele. For special occations you would find us at Hannah’s in Denton, or Dee Lincoln Prime in Frisco. One of the most fun places we frequent is Hilltop Truck Stop in Northlake, a variety of food trucks, paired with covered spaces, adult beverages, and often times live music.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Our business would not be where it is without my husband, John. John may not know how to give a single haircut but he is an absolute gem of a man when it comes to customer service. After all these years in business together he knows all the ins and outs of the grooming industry and is passionate about being a knowledgeable and reliable source of information for our customers.
I would also like to recognize my parents. Both my parents were entrepreneurs when I was growing up. They taught me to work hard, and if anyone could do something I could do it too. My mom gave me a job in her grooming salon when I was in college and years later I returned to the field to pursue my passion in grooming.
